Sittin' On The Front Porch

It was a vivid, recurring nightmare...

I crouched on a war torn battlefield, when suddenly a jagged shrapnel missile cut through a makeshift wall of wood and stone and slammed into my right shoulder, knocking me off my feet. The deep WOUND was gushing blood. A medic ripped open my field jacket, poured astringent on the gaping hole in my shoulder, and WOUND a thick gauze bandage around my shoulder and upper arm.

The searing pain from the red hot metal that created the TEAR in my flesh brought a TEAR to my eye.

I was screaming, "I RESENT this frickin' suicide mission," while the radio operator tapped out a follow-up message to be RESENT: "White Eagle, White Eagle, This is Geronimo...We are surrounded by hostile forces-Requesting immediate air support and Medivac-Clear."

After recuperating six weeks in a stateside hospital, I decided to move into an old farmhouse in an isolated hippy COMMUNE called Bluegrass Betty's, and COMMUNE with nature. I happily spent the next ten years of my life there.

As far as I was concerned, my existence was PERFECT, but I never stopped trying to PERFECT my talent for songwriting, and to this day, I still RECORD each and every song I write, in my cozy little home studio, but while my first song came out as a RECORD, these days they are released on CD.

Whenever I return to that heavenly patch of serenity, though, I still like to WIND down my day barefoot, in ragged jeans, sitting in that old oaken rocking chair out on the front porch, the cool WIND blowing through my hair, singing and playing music from back in the day.

It just doesn't get any better than that.

barb!

Great post as always Rick!

Thanks, Keith!

Great use of words spelled the same. I like the story too!

Words spelled the same reminds me of an incident where I had to attend a training for 2 days and the session outline had listed for 3 PM on day 2:

3PM-Resume writing.

Someone raised their hand and asked..."Why is there a session on resume writing"?

Reply: "No, no, we are going to resume writing" (pick up from where we end the prior writing session).

Maybe you had to be there, but for the particular time and circumstance, the question raised a chuckle.

Someone was a bit too literal, Cindy. :)

Hi Rick....as always....very clever. This read was very entertaining to read!
Debbie

Thank you, Debbie! :)

Thanks for the blog
Keep up the good work.

Thanks, Gwen. :)

Thanks, Rick. Your wild weird (or weird wild?) imagination and your excellence are at work again.
You say, you record your songs, right? But where are the records?
See, we don't see them, nor do we hear them. But we'd like to see (and hear) the like songs because we like them a lot...:))

This was a story, Vera, illustrative of heteronyms. In the real world of music, all the songs I've recorded are on Reverbnation, other than the more than 25 the studio lost forever from their archives during a lightning storm. Cest La Vie! :)

Yes, I remember you telling me that. A terrible story...Good you can sing all that again.I think you keep all the texts and do you write down the music too?:)))

Weird, I was traveling back from Fla to Ky again today, listening to the radio...Velvet Underground "Pale Blue Eyes"...sounded just like you singing Rick! True!

Thanks, Cindy! :)

Thanks for this Rick, was glad that you said ragged jeans, had an image of you sitting in your attire that you wear to put out your bins lol.

Great blog and it shows how many words are used for this and I bet these were only a few of a big list.

Have a good weekend Rick. xxx

True, Cheryl, there are more such words. Enjoy your weekend, as well! :)

Good Morning Rick,

That was a very good English lesson, especially for us foreigners.
The story was a bit too realistic when you consider I am sitting at my computer before breakfast. While you are sitting in your rocking chair I think you missed my last WA post.

Greetings from the south of Spain, Taetske

Hi Taetske. I'll check your post. :)

Brilliant!!

Thanks, David!

Very well explained, Rick. Is this story about your :)

Thanks, Carol. It was a story. I tried to make it vivid. :)
