School's Out For The Summer!

This is it, folks...

Today is the last day for students!

Everyone seems to be in a jovial mood.

The big staff vs. students kickball game is this morning at 10:15. The staff has only ever lost once, and not on my watch.

I played for many years, amassing an enviable, undefeated record as the winning "pitcher," but these days I have relegated myself to observer, due to issues with my knees.

GO STAFF!

Many parties, board games, and movies today...A day of celebration, and the thing that strikes me is just how fast the year has gone by.

Of course, there were days, and even a week or two in which time seemed to slow down, but overall, the year has really flown by!

A few days next week to tie things together, and another school year has come and gone.

Then a few weeks off, my summer camp for special needs children, one more week, and things begin again in the fall.

It will all happen so fast it would make your head spin.

As we age, time seems to speed up. My best suggestion to you is to enjoy each moment.

After all, that's what life is made of.

Make them all count!

It has taken me a while to respond to this post because I miss being in a school.

I know the mixed emotions you have on the last day the children are in the building. You are torn between relief and a feeling of loss.

I always felt the last day of school was like the day each of my own children decided it was time to "leave the nest." I wanted them to venture forth, but I really did not want them to leave me.

I am certain you have touched the hearts of countless children over the years. You have given a piece of yourself to every child, hoping they know you cared and hoping that you equipped them with the skills they need to move on to the next level.

Teachers are truly special human beings. No other profession requires a person to be a mother, father, nurse, doctor, counsellor, peace keeper, coach, supporter, believer, listener, guide, etc., for 25-30 human beings on a daily basis for nearly 200 days per year.

I stand in great admiration of teachers. What they are willing to do for children defies description. It is far more than teaching math, science and reading. It is their gift of self that makes teachers great.

I want to thank you, and all the teachers we have here at WA, for the gift of self you so willingly give to other people's children.

Teachers make America, Canada, Europe, South America, ... the world great!

I had the privilege of working with teachers for over 33 years and everyday I was humbled by their greatness.

Thank you for being a teacher!

Susan

Thank you so much, Susan, and you are right on target about the mixed emotions of the last day of school! :)

Yes, the summer will just fly right by too! I heard when you get really elderly the decades start to fly by. Not looking forward to that one. Enjoy your time off!

That's why we savor each day, Gina! :)

As long as it's not "School's out forever" like the song continues Rick!

Right on, Mike!

Already summer holidays. Over here they still have to wait one more month. And summer holidays are 5 to 6 weeks only.

We get a couple months off, then back in August, Eric.

So true! :)

Thanks, Carol. :)

I remember how excited I was as a kid about summer vacation. I was shocked to find out it was only 2 months long! Back then it seemed like a lifetime. I use to teach 4th grade do I can relate to your schedule. But you still have a couple months of a different routine. Enjoy! Debbie

The different routine definitely helps us to recharge, Debbie! :)

Phew, you made it! Well done, now enjoy your well earned break, Sue :)

Thank you, Sue! :)

Great start of the summer.

It was, Marilyn! :)

My congratulations, Rick...Summer is in at last!
I don't think the last school days seemed too fast to you...
It all is a matter of perception, of course. When you break your routine, this way or the other, the time slows down because you savour the moment... it also slows down at moments when you are tired and want it to go faster.
Anyway, happy for you! Enjoy your freedom!:))

Thank you so much, Vera! :))
