Comparing Ourselves to Others Causes a Lot of Misery in the World. Be Happy with Who You Are and Where You're At, and Grateful for What You've Got!

You Can Strive to Be Better, but You Don't Have To Be Better than the Joneses Next Door! If You Took a Closer Look at Their Lifestyle, They might not be Leading the Thrilling Lives You Imagine.

That Big House may have an Even Bigger Mortgage...That Fancy New Car may be Driving Them Into the Ground!

Competition is the Opposite of Cooperation: People Compete When They Are Striving for a Goal Which Cannot Be Shared.

Sports is a Good Example of Competition: Both Football Teams Cannot Win the Big Game!

(When I Participated in Sports in School, If We Won the Game, We Sang Songs on the Bus Ride Home. If We Lost the Game, We Rode Home In Silence. "Coach's Rule!" Guess He Wanted Us to Contemplate What Went Wrong)

Within a Team, however, Cooperation is Essential for Success. (Coach used to Tell Us: "There's No "I" in Team.")

Here at Wealthy Affiliate, We're on the Same Team! We Cooperate With Each Other, and Competition is Unnecessary. We Have a Common Goal of Becoming Successful Internet Marketers, and We Can All Achieve that Goal! All of Us.

Gandhi Believed Competition Comes From the Ego, and that "Society must be Based upon Mutual Love, Cooperation, and Sacrifice for the Well-Being of Humanity."

He also Said We Should "Cooperate and Serve...The Welfare of Others, and...Share Each Other's Joys, Sorrows, and Achievements as a Norm of a Social Life."

This is a Daily Occurrence Here at WA! We're One Big, Global Family, Sharing Each Other's Joys, Sorrows, and Achievements. We Want Our Other Family Members To Do Well!

It Really Doesn't Matter What Anybody Else is Doing: Live By Your Own Rules, and Focus on Yourself.

I may not be the Best Guy on the Block or in the Company, but I'll Continue to Work Hard to be the Best Guy I CAN BE.

The Only Person You Need to Compete With is Yesterday's Version of Yourself.

Joel Osteen (Pastor of Lakewood Church in Houston, Texas, America's Largest and Fastest Growing Church) Tells the Story of an Airplane that was About to Crash:

There were 4 Passengers, but Only 3 Parachutes.

The First Passenger Said, "I'm a Leading Heart Surgeon. My Patients Need Me."

He Snatched the First Parachute and Jumped.

The Second Passenger Said, "I'm a Rocket Scientist. One of the Smartest Men in the World. My Country Needs Me."

He Grabbed the Second Parachute and Jumped.

The Third Passenger was Pope John Paul. He Said to the Fourth Passenger, a 10 Year Old Boy Scout, "Son, I'm Old and Frail. You Take the Last Parachute."

The Boy Scout Said, "That's OK, Sir, There's Still 2 Parachutes Left...The World's Smartest Man Just Jumped Out Wearing My Backpack!"

It's Always Better to Cooperate, if the Situation Warrants it!

Teddy Roosevelt (1858-1919, 26th President of The United States) Once Said, "Comparison is the Thief of Joy."

All Comparing Yourself to Others Can Do is Make You Feel Bad, Because (As the Dialog from some Old Cowboy Movie Goes): You may be On Top Today, Pilgrim, but, Somewhere, Some Time, When You Least Expect It, Somebody Leaner, Meaner, and Faster, Out To Make a Name For Himself, is Gonna Come Along and Gun You Down!

(Note: I couldn't Find This on Google, but I Remember it From Somewhere. Anybody Got a Source? Did I Dream it??)

My Pop Once Related the Story of an Avid Golfer, Who Died and Went to Heaven, which Turned Out to be One Big, Gorgeous Country Club.

As the Man Passed Through the Golden Gates, Saint Peter Strolled Out of the Clubhouse and Stood Silently Beside Him.

They Both Watched as a Golfer Teed Off on the First Hole, a 425 Yard Par 4.

His Magnificent Tee Shot Soared 375 Yards Through the Air, Hit Just in Front of the Green, Rolled Right Up to the Cup, Teetered a Moment on the Edge, and Dropped Into the Hole, for a Hole -In-One!

"Did You See That?" Asked the Newly Departed, "That Guy Must Think He's Jesus Christ!"

Saint Peter Smiled, and Replied:

"That Is Jesus. He Thinks He's Arnold Palmer."

Just Be the Best You, Whatever You're Doing.

Runners are often Told by Coaches, "Run Your Own Race," that is, Compete Against Yourself, Not Against the Other Runners.

Some People Disagree With This Notion, and Elite, World Class Runners' Tendencies to Run in a Pack During a Race is Because They Can Pace Themselves Better Against Other Runners. The Presence of Competitors also Activates Instincts that Increase an Athlete's Maximum Pain Tolerance.

This was Proved in a 1968 University of California-Berkeley Research Project, where Subjects Rode Stationary Bicycles, First Alone, and then Next to Another Rider. In the Sample with the Additional Rider, Test Subjects Pedaled an Average of 20% Longer Than When Riding Alone.

But, We're Not Running a Race, or Competing With Each Other, So Run Your Own Race at Your Own Pace, and Enjoy your Wealthy Affiliate Run!

It's My Pleasure to Share a Few Quotes:

"A Flower Does Not Think of Competing With the Flowers Next to it. It Just Blooms." (Anonymous)

"The Trouble with the Rat Race is that Even When You Win, You're Still a Rat." (Jane Wagner, Author of "The Search For Signs Of Intelligent Life In The Universe")

"Don't Compare Your Situation to Somebody Else's. You're Not Running Their Race. You're Running Your Own Race." (Joel Osteen)

"Stop Competing With Others. Start Competing With Yourself." (Tristinalyana)

"If You Continuously Compete With Others, You Become Bitter, but If You Continuously Compete With Yourself, You Become Better." (LiveLifeHappy.com)

"Run Your Own Race-Strive to Be the Best That You Can, and Don't Be Envious of What Others Have and You Don't. It's Only a Competition If You Let it Be." (Helen Simpson, English Novelist and Short Story Writer)

BIG FAT TAG IN MY TAG LIBRARY

Thanks so much, Therese! Now I'm dancing! Watch my feet Fly! :)

You know, Rick, this is utterly amazing, actually....
My mind must have made some sort of evolutionary leap.
Whether I "pass" someone or they "pass" me, there's always this dynamic joy....
Try finding that "out there", I think it's impossible......

I think you've hit upon a real phenomenon, Therese! Pass it on! :)

Another great post! You are an inspiring and motivational leader her at WA! keep it going, cheers, Lisa

Thank you so much, Lisa! I'll keep 'em coming. :)

Thanks for a great post-Cosmic, a lot of truth and very encouraging!!!
Marty:-)

Thanks for reading Marty! :)

This is a great post! If we all were just in competition with ourselves the world would be a better place.

At least here we can truly cooperate. It's a great feeling! :)

Entertaining and informative as always, Rick. I look forward to your posts.

Thanks Mike!

Thanks, I was afraid I was not going to get my daily dose of Rickology today. You saved me, friend! Steve

Thanks for being a constant reader, Steve. I appreciate it!

My pleasure Rick. I learn from you, and also thanks to you learning has become an insatiable passion! I am somewhat afraid that if you miss a day posting......I May have to call 911. Have a great day/evening! Steve

Boy, Steve, I don't think I can pull the rabbit out of the hat on a daily basis, but I will try to make the posts I do turn out entertaining. I'm enjoying yours, as well! You have a good night, too-Rick

One of my favorite all-time movies is Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. No competition.....just getting better and better every day!

That is a cool movie! What guy couldn't get the girl if he knew her so well. :)

It's funny- thought about something of the kind... Not exactly this, but very close.Wanted to write about happiness. And happiness is about being yourself and running your own race. Will still do it. Will shut down the outburst of poetry and do... hahaha...:)

It's good to have a variety of posts, I think. :)

Oh yeah... I am just observing the reactions of people, try to see if I am understood... my today's post is a little bit too Japanese I am afraid...:)

Many of them are probably more sophisticated than you realize. No worries! :)

Sure... :) No worries at all...I still look at WA as a miniature of society, tremendously improved though...Look at our blog platform as a workshop to see what is accepted and what is not...more or less so...
Liked your story about the parachute. Funny and sad at the same time...:)

What Gandhi said makes sense. If it´s true, competing would increase your ego. Whereas cooperating would increase your self.

Ego can cause problems. I guess competing can build your ego, if you win. Otherwise, it can deflate your ego. Better to keep ego out of it, I believe. :)

That´s probably best, yes.

Stressing about my emails at the moment, have bookmarked to have a proper read in the morning :)

I do it, too, Jude. It's a constant thing! Go at your own pace! :)
