One Of Those Weeks

I'm not a complainer.

I'm really not.

This has just been one of those weeks, though, and I cannot help but believe that bright, sunshiney skies are just around the corner!

The first crummy thing happened on Sunday...

I have a hot pad on my bed, which I sleep with under my back. I know I'm not supposed to do that, but it alleviates some back pain, and helps me to sleep better.

At any rate, it automatically switches off at some point during the night, and it's off until I wake up to use the bathroom, at which time I switch it back on again.

This story is not about the pad, however, but about the cord hooked up to it. The cord runs down under the covers, underneath the bed, and plugs into a power strip. (I know...fire hazard!)

At times, a bit of the cord protrudes from underneath the bed. This is nothing I was unaware of, it's just that I do not always have my noodle operating at full capacity!

So, Sunday night, I jumped up from the bed (never a good idea!), and started across the floor toward the door. At about the same time, my right foot became entangled in a loop that the heating pad cord had formed, right at the edge of my bed.

It worked pretty much like a snare you would make to capture a small animal.

I had not taken but a step, when the snare tightened, and I toppled like a towering fir tree falling under the axe of Paul Bunyan.

I banged up both knees, hurt my back, and hurt both wrists, which I bent back in an effort to lessen my fall with my hands. (Not a good idea, with wrists that have been previously broken, but certainly a natural defensive maneuver when you are falling.)

Sunday night was spent with ice packs on both knees. I'm still in recovery mode, with aches and bruises.

Tuesday was the day I was supposed to get my one false tooth back from the dentist. This is, unfortunately, a front tooth, and thus I have been smiling small smiles for 3 1/2 weeks, while waiting for the tooth to be finished. (I was told they could not give me a temporary tooth)

("Vanity is the flatterer of the soul.")

So, I was anxious to get the tooth back, the other having been lost somewhere in my bass player's car, but that's a story for another time.

When I got situated in the dentists' chair, the dentist showed me the tooth, and the first thing I noticed was that it had metal on each end.

"My other one didn't have metal on it," I said.

"Let's try it and see how it looks," she said.

It kind of looked like I had miniature braces, the metal clearly showing on each end of my smile.

"Do you want me to cut off the metal?" she asked.

I nodded.

Once that was done, we tried the tooth again, but it had now become too loose.

The dentist had a remedy for that problem also, apparently, and added a bit of adhesive to it, and some extra "material" to make it "snap into place" like the old tooth.

She pushed it into the gap. After a few minutes of pulling on the tooth to get it back out, I heard what you never want to hear when you're sitting in the dentists' chair...

"Uh oh, I've never had this happen before!"

That's right, the tooth was stuck!

False teeth need to come out to be cleaned, so as not to accumulate bacteria, and this one was stuck tight!

After about fifteen minutes of trying to pull the tooth out, my dentist conceded that she was going to have to "cut it out!"

All in all, I spent two hours in the dentists' chair, getting the new tooth cut out of my mouth. I did not get anesthetic, because it was a false tooth.

My gums and lips are quite sore today.

Now I have to wait another 3 1/2 weeks for them to make a brand new tooth.

My neck is sore from having to hold my head in a fixed position for 2 hours.

Good thing I'm an overall positive person!

So...how was your week?

You can just have a small smile for another two weeks.

Small smile, I guess, Jimmy!

Wow. Ouch Rick! I hope this doesn't affect your playing ability if you play instruments. I've had falls in my life. A slippery rock in a creek breaking my wrist, falling backwards in the ice hitting my head and seeing stars and I fell forward on my nose and it hasn't been as straight as before.
One good reason for underfloor wiring conduits in sensible companies. At my age falls are the number one thing to be watchful for. I hope you recover quickly and well!

Thanks you, my friend. I will endeavor to be more careful!

Not fun Rick, it sounds like you could use a long and relaxing weekend. I am anxious to hear the story of what went on in the bass players car though.

I've got a 3-day weekend coming up, Deb! :)

It's in there somewhere, Deb! :)

Oh my, you are going to need a holiday next week to recover from this week! Probably best to cancel the rest of this week, due to lack of interest? Sue :)

It's been a tough one, Sue, but I'm pretty tough, too! :)

Haha! Not going to argue with that! Sue :)

OMG....Only the great fall that hard!!!!

You are right. It is a good thing you are such a positive person and that you have a tremendous sense of humour.

Here's hoping only good things come your way from here on in.

I appreciate the good wishes, Susan! :)

Wow! Not as exciting as your week was, Rick!

That's enough excitement for me, Carol! :)

Gosh, I'm really sorry for you aches and pains but it is good to know your human like the rest of us. Your posts are always so fun. Continue to heal and keep smiling,in spite of the tooth situation. Debbie

Will do, Debbie-Thanks! :)

Hi Rick,

I have been really focusing on my studies and not reading any post, just opening them and liking, but I want to stop for a moment and say. Sorry, you are having a rough week, I can relate but remember.

"The sun'll come out
Tomorrow
So ya gotta hang on
'Til tomorrow
Come what may
Tomorrow!
Tomorrow!
I love ya
Tomorrow!
You're always
A day
A way!"

Wow! A song for me? Thank you so much, Luba, and I echo the sentiment! :)

Oh poor, poor Rick....I managed to avoid a falling issue in your description, though I felt unsure about it...It was as if I felt something...It should be painful to walk now...Sorry about your dental troubles too...Hope this post of mine will add some positivity to this troubled week...:))

That was very kind of you, Vera. You are always supportive, and I appreciate it! :))

Just get better please..:))
