Email Follow-Up

I recently did a Blog ("The Email Conundrum") in which I confided that I had accumulated 3.000 pages of emails (75,000 emails in all!).

I believe that was Saturday, and I am happy to report that the number of pages of emails, as of this writing, is down below 900.

Still a ways to go, but it feels a lot better than 3,000 pages!

I have tried the various recommended methods of mass annihilation of emails, and I am sorry to say that they either have not worked for me, or all the necessary elements were not present on my MacBook/Yahoo mail server to even attempt them.

I do thank those of you who graciously tried to assist me. I sincerely appreciate it!

Until such time as I uncover the Holy Grail of Total and Complete Email Destruction, I will offer the few things I have found, which sped up the process somewhat for me:

Once again, these methods are for use on the MacBook (circa 2007), using Yahoo mail. If you have this combination, the following may save you some headaches...

1. First of all, if you hit the SELECT ALL button, then the DELETE, this has the effect of deleting one page, or 25 emails at once. This is not machine gun fast by any means, but it's quicker than deleting one-at-a-time. (This may be a "Well, Duh!" moment, but I decided to put it in here anyway)

2. Next, near the top of Yahoo is a SEARCH MAIL button, with a white type-in bar to the left of it.

You can type in any email you know you have a lot of, then hit the SEARCH MAIL. Then you can use #1 above to delete 100 emails at a time. Even better, right?

You can also type in any letter of the alphabet, and suggestions for mail to check will pop up. Some of these will sound strange and unfamiliar, but hit SEARCH MAIL for them all, because some of the weirdest sounding ones allowed me to delete thousands of emails, a hundred at a time.

3. My final suggestion is one I wish I'd had a year ago: Delete your email as you go along. Don't allow them to accumulate. It's not only difficult to deal with when you have thousands of them, but it probably slows down your computer. (Apparently I'm not the only one neglecting deletion...one internet site alone had 85,000 people seeking the same Weapon of Mass Email Destruction I was looking for.)

I'm turning over a new leaf: Delete as you go!

I suggest you do the same.

I'm now a delete as I go person, too, Terry.

I can really relate to this. This is what I always do. I delete as I go.

That's my new thing, Ronald! :)

Great advice, Rick! :)

Don't get behind on a mess of emails, Rebecca! :)

Hi Rick, I do a clean up every six months. Irv.

I'm gonna keep it current, Irv!

Thank you! my feed has 10,000, and I answer mail everyday! This is a massive thing. mail galo.

You gotta keep up with it, Louisa. :)

This is perfect. Now, I just have to pick a day and jot it down on my oft-written-about whiteboard so it gets done :-)

I've got it down under 200 pages (from 3,000), so it goes fairly fast, but the idea of All At Once is compelling! :)

Lol....I've had trouble with backed up email for the past 1.5 yrs! Stick to your resolve...it will bite you in a painful place...haha. I am now down to 100,000 in one account and 32,000 in the other.

You need what I'm seeking, Rosie! :)

Thanks for sharing.

My pleasure, Jonathan.

Good helpful tips Rick!

Thanks, Mike.

Good Idea to delete as you go!

Absolutely, John!
