Build Bridges, Not Walls

I understand the need for a wall. I have a fence around my backyard. But, there's something in me that doesn't like walls. A wall separates people. A bridge brings them together.

Does a wall keep something out, or does it keep us in, thus limiting our lives?

Do we not need more togetherness in this world?

Stories are powerful. All cultures understand and appreciate a good story.

Bridges unite people. The Berlin Wall divided Berlin from 1961 to 1989. Eventually, it came down, and people were reunited.

I believe that the overwhelming majority of people on our planet wish for peace.

If we can ever truly touch the hands, hearts, and souls of people all over the world, world peace will become reality.

We must find common ground between all the people of the world, even if it begins with a single person or group, and spreads across the globe like ripples across a pond.

Common ground...building bridges...pursuing the common good...It just seems to be good, common sense. But difficult times can test the common sense of even the most rational of men.

Here, we have built many bridges. We have discovered much common ground. We have created an environment of people helping people. We are supportive and understanding of each other.

If it can work here, why not elsewhere? Let us strive to understand our brothers and sisters all over the world.

Build a bridge today.

Hi Rick, bridge building in our communities is the way to go and tear downthe walls which divide us.

I agree with you, Irv.

I've always had a different perspective about fences than most, having had the opportunity to see how they affected a neighborhood in a sort of time-lapse movie kind of way. Maybe I'll blog about that one of these days.

First time I'm realizing my unique view of this topic and how it molded my freedom-loving personality during my formative years.

Hal, that sounds like it would make a very interesting Blog-even a great song!

Interesting perspective...what did Robert Frost write, "Good fences make good neighbors"...there's a logic and sense there, too...

Definitely two sides to the issue, Arthur. Frost was no slouch!

Interesting and true.

Thanks, Imogene. :)

Holes and doorways can be put in walls and gates can block bridges. It still comes down to 1 on 1 negotiation and understanding

Well spoken, Mike!

thanks for sharing!

My pleasure, Karin!

I couldn't have said it better myself Rick or Davida.
To Bridges! All over! Donna

Thanks for commenting, Donna! :)

Yeah we should build bridges, not walls...Funnily enough , people build walls in graveyards even. I know it's not in American tradition, but here they do...:)

Lots of walls in Europe-walls have a long tradition. :)

Great article

Thank you, Jonathan.

I know you're referring to the wall Trump wants to build to keep the Mexicans out---I know people who believe the Mexicans that came here illegally should be sent back because they get free health care, ect. ect

but these are the same people that do the jobs that no American wants to do---wait until the economy drops and they realize just how valuable they are to our economy

There are a lot of hard-working people of all cultures in our country, Davida. :)

yes there are---many that come from other countries---that's not what I mean---it's the mentality of this country right now with Trump as President---you're seeing on the news now a rise in Antisemitism and desecration of Jewish tombstones and synagogues---this was the mentality that led to WWII and the annihilation of 6 million Jews

A worldwide tragedy, to be sure, Davida. Thanks so much for commenting. :)
