Hello Codjoe. I can try to help you as I spend a FULL day teaching myself and succeeded. I watched a lot of videos and used a free plugin called elementor. I do not think you need the plug in though I just wanted more options but I am sure it can all be done with wordpress but you would have to ask someone else.
If you want a static page, you need to create 2 pages: a home page and blog page. Then within wordpress, go to "appearance" then "reading" and there you can change your home bage to a static page.
I also created a call to action button on my homepage using elementor and basically put my url of my blog page in the button widget which then take the user there.
If you decide to use elementor, there are so many easy videos to follow on Youtube. I warn you though that with the free version, you can not use this plug in for any of your headers or other pages other than the homepage. So you end up having to switch between wordpress and elementor depending what you are working on. That is why it made it complicated.

Is it possible to tell the difference between comments received from WA members through SiteComments and a regular visitor to your website?

When I get organic comments, the commenter usually doesn't always have a gravatar, and sometimes there is no website registered with them.
That's how I have recognized organic comments so far. I'm sure there are other ways to find out, but I don't know them yet ;-) I hope this helps :-)

Some leave twice so they can have backlinks posted back to their site while getting credit through WA. Just be careful not to approve both.
