Measured Success -Anguilla Recovery Update

The recovery process surprises repeat visitors to the Island. It is difficult to believe that the Island had lost 9O % of its communication and electricity infrastructure.

The work crews from other Caribbean and Canada did a fantastic job; The overall infrastructure has been upgraded from the pre hurricane appearance.

It is a shame to have the broken lines from the two communication servers still hanging from poles and lying by the roadsides.

A shortage of labor and materials seem to be the problem; but I wish there were a clean up process to erase the evidence and memory of a devastating hurricane.

This is now five months and hardwired Internet, cable and landline service has still not been restored.

Working at WA is now taking twice the normal time, to complete any task.

It took seven days and six attempts to download SEO Pro and seven days and eight attempts to download a security system on a new mini computer; in the end the company had to assist in the installing by remote control.

Today I switched servers all together, hoping for better service; many people are doing the same; this is the popular opinion on the Island . I was using one server at home and the other at the gallery.

Popular opinion seem to support the notion that It will be months before regular service is restored, in the mean time the queues are long lining up for data plans, boxes or wireless modems.

I am trying to keep calm and be thankful we have any service at all.

It has been a long and hard five months to regain 500 positions in the ranking

Courtney,
I had no idea (since my WA membership post-dates the hurricanes) that Anguilla was so hard hit! All we hear about in our national news is Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands! So sorry to hear that it impacted your homeland as well, if not more so!
It's amazing to me, given your level of difficulty, that you have been such a frequent poster over the past few weeks! It bespeaks a high level of dedication, and a strong determination to assist the rest of us in our quest!
Thank you!
Tim

Awesome Courtney. Bless You all Amen.

Thanks a million.

Courtney, how wonderful that things are pulling back together. I am truly happy!

Thanks we are getting there; there are some who love this little rock so much they are willing to tolerate some inconveniences.Keep positive. Best wishes.

Wishing you great strength and sending continued prayers for your country. Bounce-back soon!

Thanks; we are bouncing back; The Canadian crew just left the Island after bringing some smiles to our faces.Thank you Guys.

Wow... we watched the devastation on TV and felt so terrible for everyone there. Happy you are safe, hang in there and keep pushing forward with your work. Thinking about you!

Thank you Michelle, the people of Anguilla are showing strength and courage; jobs are a challenge as most hotels are still closed; but I feel for our sister neighbors-S.t Martin/ St. Maarten; I listen to their talk shows daily, the people are hurting, perhaps more than us here in Anguilla;but the politcal soap opera is more painful.

wish you all the best... thank you for sharing... it is also a good reminder to us not to take all available facilities for granted.

No one knows when they will feel the agony of climate change. But as Oscar Brown would sing-Stay Cool.

I am so sorry for your struggles. It sounds that you are doing a wonderful job at working to stay calm and patient and thankful and in the long-term, that will come back to you ten-fold. When my service gets wonky today because we are getting twelve inches of snow, I will do the same in patience and gratefulness and will think of you and keep in perspective. Enjoy the beauty around you while your services continue to be slowly restored :)

12 inches of snow? when I left England in 1969 I vowed to never see snow again unless in pictures; now my daughter is insisting I come to your draduation from Birmingham University in December this year; she has to promise me - no snow, Lol

Congratulations to your daughter! Fingers crossed there will be no snow :)
Yes, it is predicted up to 12" of snow here, it started in the night and is still coming down, now nearing midday. One of my clients is a landscape company and I started driving a salt truck for her last winter, so I will be heading out as soon as it stops. Snow is a pain, and I am a warm-weather-loving gal, but it is so beautiful (if we're to have winter and cold, might as well snow and be gorgeous, I say). And now, I get to climb up into a big 'ole truck and go out into the quiet night and drive it around. And get paid! It has definitely helped my attitude about winter :)

I know how you feel my dear friend, I traveled to my country where I stayed in a newly finished house with electricity not yet connected and I have to use this modem with the internet which it takes ages to make one download. It wasn't enjoyable at all.
I suggest you make some little adjustment and wait till full connections are restored, a little more patience.
Cheers

Thanks I am sorry you are suffering some of the same issues, the hard part is when an app closes in the middle of downloading because of slow speed. livining without electricity is hard, We are still using battery or solar powered devices even though electricity is restored; I am looking forward to seeing how much we are saving on electricity.Best wishes. Enjoy your day.

Sorry its been such a struggle, I'll be praying that communications get easier soon for those there. - Shirley

Thanks Shirley. One of the managers informed me we should have normal service back by the end of April-8 months, that's how devasting Irma was..
