Residents in North America, Europe and Australasia in particular will soon benefit from a blood test to detect Melanoma, a deadly skin cancer.
The blood test was developed by scientists in Australia; and can raise the survival rate of melanoma to 95%; late detection can lower the survival rate to below 50%
I am always amazed as to why these announcements are made so early. The test has to undergo more clinical tests and might not be ready for another 3 years.
The current test for melanoma is a Biopsy.
To avoid melanoma stay out of the sun during the very not hours, use sunscreen and be aware of UV tanning beds.
Stay Healthy.

The current method of a biopsy is after visible changes have occurred on the skin. It would be interesting to see if this blood test could catch it even earlier, prior to visible changes, but then the question would be what kind of treatments would be involved? Also, what is the percentage of false positives that the blood test could deliver? Being diagnosed with Cancer is a scary thing, and that would be frustrating to have the test say you have Melanoma, only to potentially find out that it was a false positive. Should be interesting to see how this develops.
Yes, the test can detect prior to visible signs and you will have to check, but I think the figures were 4 out of five.

Good post, Courtney. My dad's lung cancer started as a melanoma on his leg. This is wonderful news.
