Do You Engage When Offering Comments?

One of the great features at WA is the offering and requesting of comments and feedback.

How you manage those features is also important; many a time the need to engage is offered but goes a begging.

When a member offers comments on a blog, and more so on a request for comments, there are times questions are asked by both authors that goes unanswered.

My routine for making and responding to comments is to acknowledge that I have read them by clicking ‘like’ and engaging when a question is asked or when the comment merits a written response.

Sometimes the author will ask a question and never look back to see the answer or acknowledge that they have seen it; or engage if further clarification is needed.

This is particularly true in answering the call to comments requested; there is a one-stop visit regardless even when a question in asked in the comments.

This is very frustrating for the member who took the time to write an answer or ask a further question in response.

Don’t miss opportunities to engage; you might miss a chance to learn something new.

Thanks for sharing, Courtney.

Conversation has many conventions, on and offline. But people’s ability to return to comment threads on blogs is shaped by all kinds of vagaries.

For instance, the commenter may not be signed up to see new replies to their comment; or the notifications for these may not have been seen or delivered for whatever reason. So I would hesitate to presume to know why a comment thread has run cold.

That said, some of the most useful search results I’ve chanced across have been in comments threads, where subject matter experts are having a good crack at a topic. I’m so grateful for those comment conversations, I sometimes wade deep into search results to find the best of them!

I have not studied the reasons, but i have missed the tread in live chat a couple of times, its so fast moving, if anyone knows an easy way to retrieve a tread in live chat, please share.

You're absolutely correct. Great post.
All the best,
Wendi

Thanks Wendi, I get frustrated when someone asks a question in a comment and then goes away period.

agreed and sometimes you can learn more from the discussion

I have learnt a lot from comments.I view it as one of the training avenues.

No [oint answering if a meaningful comment cant be offered

Mike can you elaborate a little.I am more concerned about questions being asked in a comment and then one does not look back for an answer.

If you don't know anything don't say anything. I hope I didn't violate that!

One thing I will always do is like and comment on blogs and reply and reply and reply, just as many times as the person comments. It can lead to a long conversation but I think it is only polite to answer. xxxx

I agree, even if only to click like, I still wish a tick was available.

I totally agree with you. If I write a blog post here and people comment, I always reply and like their comment. Sometimes a conversation is struck up too. The value in WA lies in the community and engaging with each other.
With Grace and Gratitude
Karen

I like your choice of words-Grace and Gratitude.

Totally agree with you Courtney. If someone has taken the time to provide a positive comment and did ask a question. I think it is important to respond to that question. You never know if that individual is your next convert.

Why ask a question if you are not looking for a response. it's a question of courtesy also.

He it most certainly.

We're on the same wavelength. I wrote a similar post some months ago.

Great caption-Don't leave you comments hanging.
