Participating in the Caribbean Festival of Visual and Performing Arts in Barbados was an experience of mixed blessings.

There were 500 planned events scattered at various venues across the island in a window of 10 days.

The fact that CropOver, (Barbados annual carnival) preceded the festival by less than one month, might have contributed to some of the failures .

Attendances were disappointing in many cases and scheduling presented some challenges; entry fees for some performances and events were ill-advised; which led to strong criticism on some of the popular talk shows, igniting the nickname Carifiasco.

My summation of the festival was summed up in a few words –“So much spectacular effort for so little”.

As for mixed blessings, the seed was planted for an exhibition in 2018, of the eight works of art I took to the festival, two were sold at the festival, and three were sold privately after the festival; I also received three commissions.

At the insistence of wifey I brought back one to Anguilla.

The personal success of the 17-day break makes the painful experience of the big drop in ranking a little easier to suffer.

Now I will rekindle the happy and addictive experience of WA.

A hearty thank you to all the members who wished me well, especially at the passing of hurricane Harvey over Barbados; I sincerely hope hurricane Irma will not hurt us here in Anguilla next week; the economy cannot afford it.

Please hold good thoughts for all in her path.

Hope all are safe!

Thank you Carol, Best wishes.

The best guess track of Irma at this time Courtney puts her north of PR and Hispaniola and veering up to the vicinity of South Carolina hitting there about Mon Sep 11. It should be passing near Anguilla soon but should be not enough steam yet to get above a brisk tropical storm that far out.

We are asked to monitor developments closely as the hurricane is likely to pass near Anguilla, I thought it was already a hurricane not a tropical storm, in any case we are keeping our fingers crossed,,In september and October almost all hotels and restaurants are closed, so there is little economic activity for tourism based businesses which is about 90 to 95 %.Thanks for the info, All the best.
