Is there anyway you can transfer a post to page or vice versa?

You can keep the same permalink so you don't have to create a redirect by deleting the post (after you copy and paste) and then EMPTY THE TRASH. If you don't empty the trash WordPress won't let you use the same URL (permalink). ~Marion

I was thinking that was what I was gonna have to do but I needed someone with more knowledge on this subject to clarify it in case there was a shortcut around this. Appreciate the confirmation and the time. Here comes the fun now of copy/paste, copy/paste the same ol', same ol' but it lets me know to make sure next time which one I want for the content on it next time before I get too far ahead of myself, don't it? Lol

Posts and pages are two different things and cannot be transferred.

What you need to do is create a new page and then cut and paste the content from your post to the page.

SAve your old post with no content. and create a permanent 301 redirect from your old post to the new page.

This way if anyone has linked to your post or it has been indexed people will get sent to your page. And not get a 401 cannot find page error, you want to avoid those.

Hi, I too would like to move some blog content to a menu page, but don't know how to create a 301 redirect. Also, do I need to copy and paste the permalink? I am pretty new to all of this and wish i would have posted my initial content onto the pages instead of creating a blog post as it is basically descriptive information for people who come to my website, but I don't want to mess with the rankings by doing something wrong :/

Everytime I try to do it, it links me to my main pg and says nothing found. 404 error.

Is your page published and updated?

I think Marion's response has him well covered. But yes, the page would have to be published and updated for it to work.

1) Open the page you want to link to in a new tab.
2) Copy the address from your browser's address bar.
3) Go back to your post/page where you want to insert the hyperlink.
4) Highlight the text or image you want and click on the hyperlink icon.
5) Paste the address into the popup box.
6) Check the box if you want to open in new window or tab.
7) Save your page/post.
If you need any more help or send me a Private Message.
~Marion

I tried that earlier before I asked the question. You're saying copy the permalink of the page, go back to the page where you want hyperlink, highlight the word or words, click the insert link, paste the permalink, check window or not, update and it should work, shouldn't it?

It should can you provide the hyperlink you're using so I can check it out.

I'm trying to use amazon associates, but the copy/paste feature only pastes the text and not the img everytime. Why is that?

It depends on what you are copy/pasting - Amazon offers just a text link that you can use as a hyper link.. or they offer images in iframe or html code.

just make sure you are copying the right lines and placing them in the right places of your site.

whats the link

I know when I paste the text on my site, it's dead text. You can't click on it.

I'm starting a video gaming site and just wrote a short post on the new Madden 16 game and tried to use the copy/paste feature for the xbox one game to my site but it was just the text when pasted.

<iframe style="width:120px;height:240px;" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" src="//ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822>
</iframe>

link your site/article

There are two tabs in the wordpress editor.. Text and Visual.. place that in the text tab.. save.. and then look at it.

I don't know whats going on but it's definitely not working. I may not be doing something right.

Well yea.. it depends on what the copy/paste is. If it's some sort of code, it's best to place it in the test editor.

Cool deal. It worked man. I appreciate it. So, anytime you're dealing with copy/paste feature, make sure you put it onto the source code page and not the visual.

I hadn't even payed it any mind that it had a visual/text tab at the top right of the page box. I think it's because the setup of the wordpress and all makes it so easy, it pretty much does it itself.

Appreciate your time and wisdom on the problem I had at hand. I've been racking my brain all day on building my site and being taught more and more info through the tutorials. I think it's time for some shut eye. I already can't wait for tomorrow and what I will be taught. Good night.
