Speed bump or train derailment?
We all run into them...
Obstacles.
Some of them are small. Some of them are not so small. But it's how we react to them that makes the difference.
Even a small obstacle becomes a big deal. And a big obstacle...not so big. What's the difference? More often than not, it's a matter of how we choose to handle them.
Speedbumps
Some obstacles are speed bumps. You know - those annnoying bumps in the road that make us slow down. Ok, you don't have to slow down on them, but you're car won't thank you! Speed bumps are everywhere. They happen every day. Yeah, they'll slow you down for a moment, but you go over it and go on your way. They are not a big deal. You don't even think about them, once they are passed.
Train Derailments
are a whole different thing. A train derailment is a big deal. The train is completely off the tracks and usually tipped over and off the rails. Progress is completely stopped until the train can be righted. Hopefully, there's no loss of life and the tracks aren't damaged. But either way, you aren't going anywhere for a while until the situation is addressed.
But sometimes
we confuse the two. We treat a speed bump as if our train has derailed.
We make it a much bigger deal than it really is. So much time and energy goes into the reaction. Some people just insist on going this direction with every little speedbump that comees into their path. And some people experience train derailments in their lives, things that are really huge; things that would drop an elephant. They happen and they suck. There are some people who, when their trains are derailed, the world knows about it. You can't hardly blame them. What ever has happened has entirely rocked their world. Some people, however, manage to take such situations in stride and unless you knew what was going on, you would never know that something big was happening in their lives or that their world has been rocked. They go about what needs to be done to get the train back on track and move along down the tracks.
We are going to run into occasional train derailments on our journey in WA. But are we going to let us stop us? NO!!!!!! - well, at least I'm not planning to!
You can't control what happens to you
But you have 100% control of how you choose to react to it. Whether we experience speed bumps or train derailments, our reactions are our choice.
Here's to careful choices and not letting the train derailments in our lives stop our journey.
May your journey be blessed and your speed bumps be small!

Thanks Christine, I needed that, my obstacles were really stumping me but I'm slowly overcoming them, posts like yours help a lot 😁
Awesome post Christine. May all your speed bumps and train derailments be easily overcome.
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you, Wanda! Here's to easily navigating through all of our bumps in the road!
Cheers! Christine
I like your analogy, Christine! We can navigate around speed bumps a bit quicker than we can derailments. However, I believe that we can still get through derailments and move forward. It may require restrategizing or starting over but it's well worth our time and effort. Sometimes we actually learn more through our speed bumps and derailments than we do when all is going smoothly. :) Thanks for the post!
All the best to you!
