Now it's a party!

But wait! How can it be a party?

We're not supposed to be hanging out together - what about social distancing?!

As we all experience social distance measures in our little corners of the world, it's amazing how social many of us have become in different ways.

People really are social critters for the most part.

We need human interaction. We crave human interaction. Show of hands....How many are seriously missing being out and about in our towns and communities? Yeah, me too! As a concierge, when I'm not doing this or working with real estate, I am literally all over San Antonio taking care of client requests. I know San Antonio really well!! I'm used to being all over town and seeing lots of folks each day. So staying at home for an extended period is not the norm for me.

But the interesting thing is that, as everybody

else is in the same boat, our list of things to do has significantly shrunk. We are having to use our time differently.

We have more time to reach out to others. I've been checking in with friends that I generally haven't had time in the busy day to connect with.

Skype and face time are my new favorite tools. There's lots of ways to connect with each other!

No, we aren't hanging out over lunch or coffee, but we're talking to each other, lending a hand as we can, sharing the newest recipes, swapping the things we may not have found at the grocery store with those who have extras.

Folks are sitting in their garages in my neighborhood with the door open, and chatting - at a distance - with neighbors who are taking walks and getting a bit of exercise. I've met a bunch of neighbors I haven't talked with before. People are working out in their yards. And, since it is 'leaf drop' season here in San Antonio, there are lots of leaves to be gathered and pollen to be swept up.

Next week, my 4 year old grandson, Jack is home indefintely as daycare has closed. Bless their hearts for going as long as they did! So NOW it's a party!

Jack is all boy! He loves technology, games, crafts, Lego's, cooking, his bike, He loves to read his books and he's scary smart!

Jack is up by 5am every day. He has mastered raiding the fridge and he likes to cook, so I come down to something new every morning - uff da!

Jack has figured out how to operate the Alexa to run the TV. Heck, I can't even figure it out half the time! He's figured out the password to my computer - and yes, I change it frequently.

And did I mention that Jack is also ADHD? He is the Energizer Bunny on steroids!

Being on lock down has been a great way for families to get to know each other again. We are all so busy doing our things, that our opportunity to connect with each other has been more of touching bases before we go on to the next thing. Being on lock down has changed that dramatically. We are spending time together - what a concept! We've broken out the games and we're teaching Jack some of our favorites. Every night is family night for now.

None of this is to take away from how very serious and dangerous this situation is. I watched the national news yesterday for the first time in a few weeks - it scared the hell out of me! But I can't live in that mode 24/7 and make it through this. All I can do is do my best to take care of myself and my family, do what we need to do to stay well, I can reach out to others and help however I possibly can to be part of the solution.

At some point, this will end. Our worlds will not be the same as they were when this all first started. A great many things will change. Hopefully, our willingness to come together and to work together will be one of the things that stays with us.

Meanwhile, stay well and stay writing!
Christine

Well said. Glad you are doing well. I have a friend from Austin,(I am north of the border, in Western Canada) and he has told me stories of different areas of Texas, including San Antonio. I one day hope to visit your State, once this crazy COVID is under control.

Great post, Christine! Sounds like some wonderful family time is being had with your grandson!

People are adapting to this temporary new normal as we have always been prone to do!

I only take live one day at a time, as we are never guaranteed another. It lowers the fear and stress levels tremendously, and also raises my excitement level each time that I am allowed to wake up to a new one!

Have a safe week and keep being productive!

Jeff

Thanks, Jeff! I am way to OCD to do things one day at a time! Would that I could! It's going to be very interesting to watch how things evolve around our world. Seems like Mother Nature is enjoying her break from our impact upon her. Who knows, maybe some of our new normal will become part of our every day living as we continue. It's amazing all that can really be done on line, when you are forced to! Stay well in Kansas, dear friend! Christine

Very true, Christine. Signs of Spring will warm the heart to the possibility that this will all be over sooner than we think! I tend to hold firmly onto that assumption!

Be safe!

Jeff

Hoping that's the case. We've had a beautiful few days here in San Antonio. Gotten lots done in the yard. That's a good thing! Stay well! Christine

That's a VERY good thing, indeed, Christine!😉

We are going to be in this for a while so let's start getting used to it. It's our new norm but the good thing is this too will pass
Seems you have a younger edition of Bill Gates in your grandson Jack! He has already mastered one of the enduring habits of great achievers- waking up early!

We'll go with a young Bill Gates with Jack. Otherwise, he's just too tiring to try to keep up with! Thanks for the perspective shift! Hope you have a fantastic day! Thanks for sharing part of your day with me. Christine

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to.............It sure is family time and more WA time. Whatever it takes to stay calm and get whatever is needed to take care of if we can. It is sad to say but this is going to be a marathon and not a sprint.

It most certainly will be - and I know we'll have a bunch of learning opportunities along the way. Meanwhile, stay well! Hugs from San Antonio! Christine

Yes, you have to do everything to keep yourself connected now that we cannot meet people socially. Nothing beats face to face, but we are certainly connecting with people everywhere more than ever. Nothing will be the same after this but has human beings, we always find a way to adapt.

If it wasn't for WA I wouldn't be talking to people from around the world

It's really the best part of this platform!!! And it's been a great way to find out what's really going on.

We are in for lots of paradigm shifts as this goes on. It will be interesting to watch. Thanks for sharing part of your day with me. Christine
