Good. The enemy of great!
It's easy to do a good job.
Good is simply being approved of or meeting the criteria - or so the dictionary says. Sometimes, that is as easy to do as simply showing up.
Being great? That is a whole other level - considerably
above average.
Why does it matter? Isn't good - good enough? It depends.
The Top Gun pilots are way beyond just good, as are the pilots that fly with the Blue Angels. Good is nowhere near good enough to be part of that amazing group of pilots! These guys and gals take great to a whole new level.
Patrick Mahome? I think we can agree that he's way more than a bit beyond good - even if you're not a Chiefs fan!
Do you want to be treated by a good doctor or a great doctor?
A good chef can cook well. A great chef can
cook and create an amazingly flavorful and memorable dining experience.
Good may get you there,
but you're within a comfort zone. Good is limiting.
How challenged are you when you're doing good?
How much do you learn at good?
Are you 'settling' at being good?
How much more effort would be required to achieve at a higher level?
Do you need to be more than good? It depends. What do you want to achieve? What are your goals? What is your 'why'?
With WA - honestly right now, I would be thrilled to be doing good - understanding and achieving - or at least moving towards my goals. But I don't feel like I've mastered much at all. I know that I know more than when I started, but application of it - just not coming together like I would hope. At least I have the writing part down. The technical part.....notsamuch. I won't give up that easily.
Great.... many folks around here are not just great - they are fantastic!!! And bless them, they are happy to share their knowledge and expertise. I don't know what we would do without them!
I aspire to be great. Maybe some day. Until then, I'll keep working at it.

I think you are being a bit hard on yourself!
In this business the writing is the core skill required - and you are already well past good on that score! You are one of the finest writers on this platform.
Getting the tech stuff done will come with time. I regularly watch tutorials on Youtube to figure stuff out. And on a very odd occasion if I need something done beyond my expertise I find someone of fiverr to do it.

I have, in the past, worked with individuals who wanted to be considered "great" or an "expert" but did not understand the extra effort required to become great or an expert.
There is nothing wrong with being "good" if good is what you aspire to be. But greatness requires something extra...extra effort, extra time, extra education, extra experience, a larger skill set, etc.
I have also encountered people who, by virtue of being persistent and never giving up achieved greatness and were considered an expert in their field. This happened without being consciously aware of that they were achieving greatness! I was just who they are - like Patrick Mahomes!

Oddly, a large number of people who are truly great seriously don't consider themselves as anything beyond ordinary. Funny how that works!! There probably isn't a single person who couldn't benefit from doing a little more - a little extra - and I would put myself at the top of that list!
Whether being good or going for great, as long as you are being yourself, you can't go wrong!
Thank you kind lady aiming to achieve between great and fantastic appears to me to be a better option than aiming to be between good and great...; besides why are you so hesitant you are achieving that constantly guess we all will never stop attempting to achieving better it's another life long thing perfection is the goal...lol ;)

Being great does indeed require a lot of hard work and there are many among us that are. You are a great writer and many steps ahead of me. As for the technical areas there is a lot to remember and takes time and I am in the same learning boat 😁.
Love the part about the doctor thow. I have had many experiences with doctors over the years. There was one that I had to deal with over bad situations with my daughter that made a statement that I will never forget. Went something like this; Makes me mad that you can get a doctor's degree with a "C" average. Which Doctor would you won't taking care of you, a "C" Doctor or the top notch"A"+ Doctor?

Ahhhh, the Blue Angels. I could watch them train while floating on a raft in my pool when I lived in Pensacola, FL. They are FANTASTIC! Sometimes the planes came so low over my house that I swear I could see the pilots eyes. lol
I'm sure you are doing better than you think. It takes a while to get the technical stuff down but then it's the part of this process that is always evolving too. So, just keep moving forward.

Thanks, Debbi! My son and his wife live in Pensacola. I've been able to see the Blue Angles on practices. Unbelievable what they are able to do not just with a plane but working together.
