You Are Standing in Your Own Acres of Diamonds

I was listening to Earl Nightingale on my walk the other morning, and he was talking about this story he heard (supposedly a true story) that is called "Acres of Diamonds".

Maybe you've already heard of this, if not, I'll give you the synopsis.

It's about an African farmer. This farmer heard tales of other people making millions by discovering diamond mines. These tales excited the farmer so much that he couldn't wait to sell his farm to go out there and find diamonds himself.

He spent his entire life wandering around looking for these diamonds. Finally, broke and desperate, he threw himself into a river and drowned.

Meanwhile...

The man who bought his farm one day found a large and unusual stone in the steam which cut through the property. It was a huge diamond with enormous value. In fact, the farm was full of diamonds, and it became one of the richest diamond mines.

The first farmer owned acres of diamonds. But he sold them for practically nothing to look for them elsewhere.

if he'd taken the time to study and prepare himself, understand what diamonds looked like in their rough state, and explored the land he owned, he would have seen that he was standing in a field of diamonds.

Your Own Acre of Diamonds

Earl goes on to say that you are standing in your own acres of diamonds. Have the patience and intelligence to explore the work that you're doing. It usually contains the riches that you seek.

Don't spend your whole life looking for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, and never staying long enough to find it. (Shiny object syndrome, anyone?)

The pot of gold can be found in the very thing you're currently doing.

If you're here on Wealthy Affiliate, I believe there's a reason for that. You must be interested in this type of work.

Instead of running from one thing to another looking for that pot of gold, stick with this and you'll find it!

That is all.

Happy Sunday!

Hi Christina,

Thanks for sharing. Heard some other version of the same story. The moral I am reminded of here is, I will reap what I sow. And when the going gets tough, I must get tougher and keep going ..
May your own acre of diamonds be just around the corner.

You reap what you sow is something that I keep in mind always. And not only that, I heard this guy on a seminar who worked with Bob Proctor, and he said there's a season for reaping and a season for sowing, but never both in the same season.

I think that's perfect for this business because it takes time to sow our seeds (create our site and blog posts), but eventually, we will be able to reap that harvest (makes sales). We just need to be patient.

Hi, Christina, I remember this story from many years ago, but it was good to get a refresher reminder thanks.

I'm glad to give you that refresher! Thanks so much for reading!

Love that story. In a sense it reminds me of myself . I was 'all over the place', and now I've settled into what I feel is the final step in that journey.

I think a lot of us are in the same boat. It's human nature. But it's a part of us we need to tame.

Thanks Christina! I sincerely needed to hear this.

Great! I'm happy to hear that. I think I needed to write it so I could hear it myself. :)

I have this Lead the Field. He is a genius. The rest of the so-called self-improvement gurus are just copies.

Yes, he definitely paved the way for many...

Hi Christina, thanks for sharing the story. I like Earl Nightingale and heard that there is a talk about Acres of Diamonds. Yet, I haven't gotten around to listening to it.

I appreciate your sharing the story. It sounds like it could be a true story. People sell their land to all the time in hopes of buying something even better. So, what a bummer for the first farmer. He was standing on acres of diamonds yet didn't take the time to learn what he had.

I hope that you have a great week.

Thanks for reading and commenting! :) Glad you enjoyed it!

Your smile has acres of diamonds Christina. The best place to find them is within yourself!

You are much too kind! Thank you for commenting. :)

Great story synopsis.
It's being said that the real value is telling your own, authentic story.
I'm counting on it.
My target keywords revolve around telling my own story.
Your post was very encouraging to me.
Many thanks.
Rick

I agree with that, Rick! You want to be yourself and definitely tell your story in your voice. Your "tribe" that resonates with you will find you.

I would be ashamed to admit how many thousands I've spent searching for diamonds... and this was during my time here at WA, after I had already made money online doing what WA taught me do.

But I wanted more money and I wanted it faster so I wasted so much time and $ chasing diamonds it was devastating. Finally after a year of that I put the blinders on and came back to the fundamentals taught here...

Great post Christina and thanks for sharing. Wisdom we all need to be reminded of 😊

Jay

Thank you for sharing your experience, Jay. I think there are tools and things that can help us, but we have to be careful about chasing too many things that we think will be the "thing" to make us rich. I do it too, and this is a reminder for myself also. :)

I've heard this story before but it is always come fresh every time I hear it. some times we just take for granted the valuables within us. looking for the greener pasture. in fact we neglect the valuable resources within us.

thanks fir sharing this lesson.

Absolutely. Perfectly stated!

Point I would like to add is, "satisfaction" we are not sometimes satisfied with what we have today. instead of improving our our backyard we keep on looking at others backyard how they do it. discover what is within us is the secret of success.

Satisfaction is an interesting topic. It's something that Bob Proctor schooled me on.

He says that we should be grateful for what we have, but we SHOULD be dissatisfied. Because dissatisfaction is a part of the creative process and leads to greater things.

For instance, what is no one was ever dissatisfied? We would all be sleeping on dirt floors, eating bugs and drawing pictures to communicate.

Dissatisfaction leads to new ideas and inventions!

BUT...I agree with you that we shouldn't look to others' backyards and compare to our own. We should look at our own, and through our dissatisfaction of our OWN yard, learn how to improve on it.

- Christina

Exactly! its nice to visit other but for the purpose of benchmarking. and apply what needs to be improve in ours.
