Stories from Inside the 9-5: Job Security Doesn't Exist
I'm sure you all already know that job security doesn't exist. I know this too. But I was given another fine example this week.
My manager called a meeting with those of us on his team and said he had some news. He told us that he needs to improve with one of our clients within 30 days, otherwise he would be fired.
I won't go into all the ins and outs of why this is completely outlandish and unfair. Although, I'll just tell you that one is that HIS manager - the person giving him this 30-day notice - is in an office in another state and doesn't even know what it is that he does.
While he assures me my job is not in jeopardy, I know better.
First of all, I am currently a free lancer. I was supposed to be made a full-time employee a few weeks ago. I just received a note from HR that they are still waiting on approvals and don't know how long it will take. (It was supposed to be 2-3 days once things got started.)
Secondly, my manager is being judged on things that I am directly responsible for.
Finally, this client, which I do all of my work for, may leave soon. Then I'll be left with nothing to do!
Am I worried about this?
Not really.
Because I know what business is like. I've been laid off 3 times so far in my career. What's one more?
Just another day at the 9-5. :)
And just another reason to become fully independent and not rely on anyone else to take care of my financial needs.
Thanks for reading my latest update!

Christina great perpective! Great read.... soooo true! The 9-5 dread or what I like to call the "Rat Race"...
Oh yea, I'm part of the rat race again! I always find it to at least be interesting. For a little while anyway. :)
