It's Hard to Say Goodbye

No, no. It's not what you think. I am NEVER leaving Wealthy Affiliate again! lol

It's hard to say goodbye to one of my websites, but I feel I must. I started a website called Pick Plants quite a while ago - before I rejoined WA.

In fact, I rejoined WA because I wanted to grow Pick Plants and make it better. I needed help with comments and getting my SEO correct and all of that good stuff.

It worked and that site did pretty well for me for a while. I got some nice sales out of it and pretty good traffic.

However...

The Beginning of the End

So that site is all about plants. It's part plant-based diet and part essential oils. But two things happened recently...

  1. I stopped trying to sell essential oils. Being in an MLM is not easy and affiliate marketing suits me so much better.
  2. I stopped being plant-based. I was actually getting sicker and sicker on that diet so I had to stop. :(

Now I'm at a loss with my site.

Time to Shut it Down

I thought of transitioning my site over to WA (it's currently at Wix) and reworking it. I started to do just that, but I realized I would basically have to start over anyway.

Most of my content just doesn't work anymore.

I was going to move it over and turn it into a review site. But the name Pick Plants doesn't make sense and I'm trying to force it into something it's not.

So, I think I have to shut that one down. It's just sad because I actually worked really hard on that site. :(

Has This Happened to You?

Have you ever had to say goodbye to a site that you worked really hard on but just doesn't work for you anymore?

I am going to hold onto the domain name for now. I may try to sell it in the future. Or maybe I can think of a way to rework it eventually.

This is bumming me out, but at least I can really put all of my 100% focus on my current site.

I'd love to hear your thoughts if this has happened to you. Or, if you have any suggestions of what I can do with the site to make it make sense, I'd love to hear those too.

Yes, something similar happened to me. It’s hard to give up a site. Have you considered selling it?

I don't think it'll sell as the traffic took a big dive.

A difficult one to call, do you just keep it ticking over in the background instead of closing it down, it could earn you some cash if you did. Not easy I wish you luck whatever you decide.
Stuart

I thought of that too, Stuart. But I don't feel right doing that since I can't really support what it's about anymore. Also, I was making most of my sales from a meal planner, and I can only make sales if I'm a member. But I canceled my membership because I can't eat anything from it anymore. :(

- Christina

Understand the problem Christina.
All the best,
Stuart

I don't have any experience about that yet, but I think if that website is earning, juts continue to write or tweak your posts from time to time, otherwise, if you really feel it doesn't inspire you anymore to write, maybe the best thing is sell it. I'm sure it will give you a good profit.

Marita

Thanks Marita! Lots of people have suggested selling it but my traffic decreased a lot for some reason. (I'm thinking some Google update.)

I had that thought when I first read the title, glad you aren't leaving WA :))))

I haven't had a previous website, but I would do the same and shut one down if I felt that I'm unable to work on it anymore and I can't re-purpose it.

It's better to dedicate the time to work on another website without distraction in the back of your mind.

All the best!
Amjad

Yes, thank you! That's what I'm thinking. It's a distraction right now, and I can't let it be. I have a goal to get to Vegas in 2020!

Sorry to hear that, Christina. Mine is on the way to shut down my dropshipping store which I only worked hard for about 4 months. I can understand how you feel.
I see that a lot of experts here have advised you to sell it. If the site is no longer your interest, it may be suitable for other people. Unless you can make a twist out of it.
You have to move on and be strong, Christina. Do take care :o)

Thank you! I'm sorry to hear about your site, but sometimes it's good to let something go that's no longer working.

- Christina

I'm ok. Thank you for your concern too, Christina. Hope you are ok after sorting out. Do take care :o)

I think with so many possibilities for niches and business in Affiliate Marketing I think you should sell the site and be done with it. You made some money with it and can make some money selling it.

Thanks for your thoughts! That makes me feel better. I don't think I can really sell it because my traffic (and sales) dropped. I might sell the domain at some point, but I'll hold onto it for now.

I had some project I work on, did not work out. Then find out someone was working almost the same thing made it. I do not know what happens you got to have positive people all around you at all times. That's your Wife, Freinds. I have some call me scammer. But when they want money it does not matter.

Thanks for your thoughts! It definitely is good to have positive people around you.

I can understand dropping the site if you no longer have real interest or passion for the niche. It is good that you did make some money off of it. Maybe you should sell it to see what you can get. - Shirley

Unfortunately there must have been a Google update at some point because my traffic really dropped. I don't think I could get much money out of it.

Hi

Yeap, the same thing happened to me with my mom-blog.
I loved it - my first website 'nd all. But, got stuck every time I needed to write a new post.
I love being a mom to my twins, but not writing about it. So, it had to be abandoned... (for now at least)

MMO niche (and my second site) suit me much better and I could talk about WA forever, so it's much easier to write and concentrate on what needs to be done.

Good luck with your second site!
Se'ya in Vegas! :) :) :)

OK good! We're on the same path. I love the MMO niche too, obviously! lol :)

I loved this niche also, but I can't do anything with it right now.

- Christina

That is an interesting question. I'm still too new to WA to have a site that I've outgrown, but it is a question that I've pondered, also.

It's something to think about for the future in case you ever run into the situation.
