Any Bing Ads Experts? How Do I Evaluate Results?

I recenrly decided to experiment a little with Bing Ads. I took a few ClickBank products and did direct linking campaigns in Bing.

(Yes, I know, it's not the best way to do things long-term, but I'm just trying to get a feel for how it all works.)

I also connected the links with ClickMagick, although the tracking has been very sporadic for me.

I didn't do too badly, as you can see here (I started the campaigns on Thursday, so made money 3 days in a row):

But I don't really know where to go from here. How do I scale up? How do I evaluate my results? What am I looking for in the numbers?

My main goal with all of this is to learn to use Bing well enough to make it a part of my overall strategy.

I really want to bring people into WA using it, but I want to get better with it first before I go too crazy.

So, the big question...

How do I make Bing Ads more successful?

- Christina

P.S. Have I mentioned lately how much I love Bing? And the more I learn about them, the more I like them. They are so much easier to work with than Google - with ads AND SEO.

I’m looking at it now, with Clickbank as the target. I’ve started with 6 tightly grouped keywords and a small budget along with a miserly starting keyword bid. If it gets impressions/clicks i’ll monitor it then start to ramp up a penny at a time. As long as ad spend is less than commissions, job’s a good ‘un. It’ll take a good month to evaluate.

Awesome! Let me know how it goes for you!

Congratulations, Christina...looks like amazing results to me. Plus, I was reading through the comments and it seems like your ROI is through the roof.

I've used Clickmagick before but, had no idea what to do with it?..lol but, I've heard that they are good to have when running ads....

Anyhow, I'm currently thinking about running Bing Ads and my question was do I direct link or link to my site? and this is how I came across your post.

Either way, you have certainly motivated me and just trying it out and testing things to see how it works because I too love Bing. They are so much easier to use, rank, and friendly too me as well.

I've tried Bing ads before with not much luck and got one premium upgrade but, they quite after 6 months. S, I guess I will try again and see what happens.

Anyway, I happy for you ...keep going, I know you have a breakthrough one way or another...

My ROI WAS through the roof, except the one campaign I ended up spending too much one.

The other one is good. I haven't spent much on it, and it resulted in over $100. I still have that one running, but no additional sales.

It's weird because I got 3 sales in a row, and then nothing...

I might try some other things with it.

I am direct linking right now to test it out, but it's definitely not the preferable way to do it. I am going to test out linking to some pages on my site.

The thing is, the tracking is being a little weird, so I don't know how reliable it is, and does that mess everything up? Ads are confusing! lol

Let me know how it goes for you if you try it!

- Christina

Yeah, ads are confusing but, they say once you master it, you can scale almost anything.

I think tracking is what is confusing to me as well. I do know many people say Clickmagick is very reliable and it does works.

I think you'll figure it all out eventually, and hopefully, I will too... lol...yes, I will let you know if I try things out again. Keep up us all posted...

Kisha

Hi Christina,

By direct linking, do you mean a redirect from the Bing ad to WA's homepage?

Because if you do, it's a really good idea.

As for scaling up, if you do several ads for one Clickbank product in your ad campaign, simply vary your ads' words (sightly) then delete the poorer performing ads.

Then put more money on the winning ad.

As for Thrive Architect, one of my sites has it and the other one didn't. The one without Thrive got ranked.

The one with Thrive Architect has no ranking in Google or even Analytics. Very weird if you ask me...

I was direct linking from Bing ads straight to ClickBank products. It worked so well at first, and then I couldn't get it going again, so I stopped with that for now.

Interesting to know about Thrive Architect. I just have a feeling about it... I could be wrong, but I'll be testing my theory out.

- Christina

We will have to wait and see... Maybe put up a test site on SiteRubix without Thrive and see what happens...

Thanks for sharing. Never used Bing before so I'll try it out.

You're welcome!

- Christina

Your results look great. Sorry I don't know anything about Bing ads. But seeing your success I believe I'll check it out. Thanks & congrats Christina.

Thank you! i'm just hoping I can create better results by not spending as much in ads.

- Christina

Fab success! Congratulations Christina! :)

Thank you! Not bad for just starting with this in this way.

- Christina

Yeah, not bad, you can say that again! It's great and I'd be over the moon if I managed that. :)

Yes, but then I made some mistakes with the ad spend. I'm still profitable, but it could be much more profitable.

But I'm learning as I go, so whatever! lol

- Christina

Exactly. Love the attitude! Go girl! :)

Thank you Christina, and I hope some Bing Add experts step forward. I will check out the info on your website also. Congrats on the sales so far.

Thanks so much Jay!

Hi Christina, that is awesome a 192.15 dollars. I need some help from you.

Sorry I am not familiar with Bing ads, but you just lit a match in me.

Michael

Well, don't get too excited. That's not all profit. lol I spent some in ads. But I'm trying to figure out how to make this more profitable. And then use Bing Ads in other ways.

I just wrote a post about this on my website yesterday if you're interested in seeing the strategy. My website is listed on my profile.

- Christina

Hi Christina,

I am on my way there now.

Thank you,

Michael

Hello again,

Maybe I can't see for looking but I could not find it. Perhaps if you could PM me your site. Would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Michael

I know less than you Christina but your results look promising. I will be following this thread.
Ray

Thanks Ray!

For this type of campaign, you'll want to create your own landing page before sending them to the ClickBank offer. The problem with direct linking is if Microsoft decides to do what Google did back in 2009-ish, then you'll have no way of changing the ad. Basically, Google allowed direct affiliate links and then one day decided to require all advertisers to change the landing page to be more relevant. They banned anyone who did not make the change in the given timeframe. Obviously, they knew that affiliates could not make changes to the pages because it was directly linked to the vendor page. So, affiliates remained banned until they could change their pages, which they could never do.

I am not saying Microsoft (BingAds) will do that, but it's always a possibility that you have to be cautious of.

The best way to scale up is to capture emails on your landing page and then send them to the ClickBank offer after. You can presell them with a useful video that gives a few tips related to the ClickBank offers. This warms them up to want to buy the product. It also allows you to place tracking information. Further, it allows you to create highly relevant landing pages/ads the way Kyle teaches in his PPC training. This WILL get your bids lower. Bing rewards with lower bids than what you specify when your Quality Scores are high. Quality scores are usually correlated with relevant landing pages, ads, keywords, etc.

You can also split test your landing page when you have control over it. You can't easily do that with the ClickBank ads unless the vendor has multiple pages.

Hope this helps.
Jim

Thanks, Jim. I understand that it's better to have a landing page or bridge page of some sort. I am just kind of testing things out right now.

I get what you're saying though. If they decide to change the rules, I could be in big trouble.

I'm more wondering...how do you know when to change your bid for keywords or campaigns? How do you know how much to put into the budget for a day? When they recommend you up your amount for certain keywords, is that a good thing to do, or is it better to just let things run for a while as they are?

- Christina

Hey Christina, I like to start my bids really low, like 10 cents to 15 cents and then incrementally up them by a few pennies. Set your daily budgets as low as possible, even $5 to start and then if you see a winning campaign, you can boost it.

I never listen to Bing's suggestions. They are trying to get you to bid up unnecessarily, in my opinion. If my positioning isn't good, say more than 4th or 5th position, I will increment the bids up a bit until I see them come down to 2nd or 3rd. The only time I may listen to their suggestions is if it is a couple of pennies higher than mine. I have had bid suggestions for 75 cents, yet when I kept those bids at 18-20 cents, I was still getting 2nd and 3rd positioning. So, my experience is they are they are trying to boost their revenues. Google does it, too.

This is great advice, thanks so much! How long do you give it until you start bidding up?

- Christina

You're welcome. I give it a few days to see how the bids are reacting. Sometimes, I'll wait a week. I also will remove broad match keywords after a while because they can bleed a campaign. You may not get as many clicks, but, for phrase and exact match, the clicks you do get will be targeted.

Awesome, thank you so much! :) This is super helpful.

- Christina

Im following...do another bing ppc cor wa but thus far lots of starters and absolutely no ulgrades and most not even a profile done.
Clickbank..might have to try that at least i would be getting commision LOL LOL
One thing u can look at in bing is ur keywords and which ones r getting clicks vs which r not...then u can adjust or exclude
Hope it helps..im off to work have a good one.

Thank you! I think my issue is that I get overwhelmed by alllll the things in Bing and it's hard to know what to focus on in there. I'm not totally sure what I'm looking at.

It's fun to learn though! I just don't want to learn with ALL my money. hahaha

- Christina

Hi Christina

Having done some Bing ads myself, the number 1 question I would ask is how much did you spend to get that $192.15?

Run the ads for another week (checking your stats daily so you can turn them off if they fail to produce results) as this will give you a better idea.

If at the end of the week, you have a good ROI, keep them running for a while longer. If you can put in $1 and get $2 out you would probably run the ads all day long!

We found the referrals for WA for pretty good but the percentage going Premium was shocking.

You may find that affiliate products via Clickbank might be a better investment for you on Bing.

Hope that helps

Jon

Thanks Jon! My ROI started off great. Then the one ad I ended up spending too much on, and since my tracking wasn't working, it just kind of got messed up.

The other product I made over $100 and I only spent $15 at the time, so that was awesome.

I stopped that one to test another product, but I think I will turn that one back on.

I just get confused about when to increase the bid amount and when not to. Which keywords to increase the bid amounts on, and which keywords to kill. If I should focus on a broad keyword first and then evaluate results, or do more targeted keywords right away. Things like that.

Super fun though. I'm enjoying learning about PPC.

I'm curious...how have you done on Bing Ads since July 20th? This is July 23rd.

I have done some advertising for my customers on Bing, but not direct advertising like you are doing. Much lower cost on Bing/Yahoo.

I did have a Google account that was banned, I believe in 2013, because I was following the advice of a Clickbank product that I was promoting and I was direct linking. Many others were doing it, also... thousands of us were banned. It was terrible!

Be careful... I don't know that I would direct link on Bing/Yahoo. If you want to direct link, which I understand why, try some of the smaller search engines.

No results since July 20 but I turned most of it off because my tracking was messed up.

i turned a new campaign back on yesterday but not many clicks yet.

I have a website that this particular product would be great for, so I'm thinking of creating a funnel for it there so I won't need to direct link.

I'll keep you posted how everything works out!

- Christina

How's this going now with Microsoft Ads?
