Blog roll or static page as your home page - which is better?
Regardless of what type of home page you end up having, it is important that it captures your readers attention in a manner that encourages clicks and navigation.
This live class will walk you through everything you need to know to have an awesome home page!
This was just the kind of training that I knew I needed to take because I figured that my affiliate website looked too barren being a simple blogroll- and now that you mentioned it, it all makes perfect sense as to why it's kind of hard to rank in the first place, due to it's nature of it's seo settings fitting into the readers only CTA upon clicking to visit your websites "homepage" is to click to read the latest posts on my blog- cool beans! Thanks Jay, you rocked it with this Webinar!
So I made a custom static homepage but I was only trying it out.... I only wrote "Welcome" and added a picture of myself; I later added bar of recent posts and when I tried to go back to add some more content to my initial content that said "welcome" with a picture of me, it woudn't let me add anything and it only said "edit in colibri" but colibri doesn't let me add my own content to the homepage. I even went back and deleted the bar that had my recent posts to see if it would let me add content but it didn't let me. Is there a way to fix this ? or do I have to completely make a new homepage?

I also have another question. So before watching this webinar, I had a blog roll home page. Then I have decided to little bit experiment and created a static home page. Of course, it doesn't look as great as those of ProBlogger or Jay's :)) So is there any chance to learn how to create awesome home pages like that? My actual static home page looks like a regular page with Recent Posts and Comments on the right sidebar (which I don't like). How can I make the home page appear without them?
You probably need to change the layout of the page. Which theme do you use?
I currently use the Hiero Theme. Have checked its settings and found nothing related.
All right, so you want to remove the sidebar from your homepage, right? Something like this? https://program.siterubix.com/ (Edit: I have deleted the site now.) You need to go to Dashboard->Pages->All Pages and then hover over your homepage and click Quick Edit on the menu bar you'll see below. Then click on the right column where it says Template and choose Full-Width Page and then click Update.
Awesome! It was so easy, but only because you have pointed me in the right direction! Thank you so much! Any idea how to to change the background color of the page?
The background colour of the page or the whole site? If it's the whole site, there should be a setting on Customize.
The background color of the home page
I can't find anything. You'd have to use code for that.
Yeah... I also found nothing. Using code is something I hope I am able to learn someday in future... )) Thank you for taking the time to help me :))
You're welcome. :)
Hi, Jay, thank you for your webinars, I have started to watch them recently and they are of great value. If I am not using WidgetKit, what other plugins can I use to add posts to my static home page? Thank you!
Usually, your theme will include widgets you can use on your static homepage. For example, the one I use on my drone site, Envo Magazine, let's me set up sections that will update with posts based on the categories assigned to them. This lets me put one section in for general posts, another for troubleshooting and so on.
Rather than troubleshoot it, delete it and start again
