Can Anyone Unravel the Mystery?

When I was younger, I used to have several cats because I adored them of course. The only time I could separate from my cats was during schools hours. Then everything changed.

As I was getting older, I noticed blotches on my skin and lots of itching, which the doctors diagnosed as allergies but could not specify the cause. To fast forward, my system became completely intolerant of cats (the dander). Worst still, I would start whizzing if I sat close to a cat for more than 5 minutes.

It didn’t end there of course :( I have become increasingly allergic and/or intolerant to most foods. Frankly, it’s becoming a nightmare. A consultant told me recently (jokingly of course) that I should be placed in a sterilised bottle!

Do you have insights into the possible causes of allergies and intolerance that suddenly come on? I have read a lot, heard many theories but am still in wonderland.

I am open to keep learning so please share :)

All things related to a solid intestinal health can be helpful here, so substances cannot exit through the walls partially unprocessed, enter the bloodstream and cause the body to develop an aversion due to substances being in the wrong place before they've been broken down completely.

This is more preventative in nature, though, as the condition already exists, I'd suggest something like Loes mentioned.

I can't help but be astounded, it's our western way of life, even if we eat healthy.....

........we're still missing 79 processable minerals out of a total of 91!
And they'd need to be taken in plant-, not mineral form....

But our agricultural practices have all but drained the ground of naturally decaying plants.....

There are interest groups dealing with this issue, and even products, but the pharma giants want them to be known as scams and avoided......

Yes! I try to explain to people how common and serious nutritional deficiency is but they just don't seem to comprehend what I am saying! Most common health problems in the US are due to deficiencies. That is why I want to start my second website on this topic.

Hi Therese,
Thank you for this. I am aware there are problems in the ways our foods are grown/produced but I didn't realise it's this bad. And of course not everyone copes equally with mineral deficiencies. This is an eye opener and deeply saddens me.
On a positive note, I am learning more and finding answers here. Thank you

I look forward to it Jessica. This is a huge area of interest.

The big ones I deal with myself are magnesium, D and the B vitamins.

Oh Jessica, you'll be providing an important service......

Thank you Therese!

I agree too Therese :)

Hi Chuka, I just ran across a WA member who says she is knowledgeable in nutrition. Maybe ask her. "theresroth" is the name. Good luck.

Thank you Deborah. I will

My son suffered terrible from multiple allergies. We went to a therapist and she treated him with the NAET-therapy, and it took a half a year, but then he was completely clean, and can eat everything again. I don't know how she did it, or how it works, he had to walk with little glass tubes in his socks.

Here you can read more of this treatment
https://www.naet.com/

Very interesting Loes...I have been reading about NAET since you posted this!

I don't understand how it works, but it does! My son was, back then, 6 years of age, and had a terrible rash from top to toe. And you could see the changes, without any ointment or pills.

There is one person here who does it. I think I will look into it. I guess it is based on acupressure/acupuncture.

The therapist was indeed an acupuncturist too, so it's related

I have heard of NAET only briefly by a therapist but I didn't pay attention. From what you said, it appeared to have worked well for your son. I will read up on it, really interesting.

Thank you Loes. I'm quite intrigued.

You really can benefit from this therapy.

You have what is called CHRONIC SYMPTOMS or symptoms which have a long history. ACUTE SYMPTOMS will take place within a short amount of time and could be brought on by SUDDEN CHANGES in the body.

Immune System, Age, Genetic Makeup, Diet all play a part as far as CAUSES of allergies.

Hi and thank you again for explaining this further. Immune system has come up a lot but it's the sudden onset that I find inexplicable. I'm gaining lots of insights here and I am truly grateful to you and everyone.

Maybe Dr. Sarah has something on her websites - find them on her profile page:

Thank you Joanne. I will take a look :)

I have also heard that if you eat a certain food all the time you can develop an allergy to it. I am allergic to many foods that I used to eat every day...and some that I never eat.

Really? Come to think of it, there are some foods I used to like a lot but not able to eat them any more. Strange,

For me it was eggs, wheat and dairy... I used to eat them every day, now I am allergic to them all.

The cat secrets proteins and other organic compounds from which a person can do an allergy. Two of the most important allergens are secreted by the sebaceous glands and saliva of the cats. The most important part of treatment is not to keep the cat because this allergy can cause long-term damage - breathing problems and develop specific immunity to the drugs problem.

Thank you Dorina for this. Yes, my reaction is so severe that I do not go near cats any longer. I was told it was the dander but didn't realise there are proteins and other organic compounds involved. Learned something new and I appreciate it :)

You welcome!I understand you perfectly because my husband makes an allergy because of a plant Ambrosia artemisiifolia.

I have allergies and my children all have allergies. What is interesting is that you do not have to be born with an allergy, and allergies can come on at any time during our life. Personal opinion ~ I think that our body chemistry changes as we age. You can grow out of certain allergies or acquire new ones.

That's the pattern I've noticed and experiencing Diane. Just curious about the cause or reason. Jessica gave quite a few insights below, which I will look into. I appreciate your feedback :)

I don't know the answer for sure, but I have become sensitive/allergic to more and more foods myself. It is quite difficult to avoid sugar, eggs, gluten, milk, yeast, potatoes, peppers, pineapple, etc. etc. It is driving me crazy.

If I eat many of those foods, my knees turn bright red and swell up. It is very painful and takes a day at least to go away. I have to sleep with ice on both knees now.

I have been wondering the same thing myself. Why do I have all these food allergies now? I know the predominant theory is leaky gut syndrome. Basically, damage to your intestines causes tiny holes that allow particles from food to enter your bloodstream causing an allergic reaction as the immune system reacts. You can avoid all the foods and wait for your system to heal and take supplements to help protect it in the future. Sometimes, if it heals you can eat those foods again in the future.

I probably had some of these allergies for many years. They did not get bad until this year however. I think I got reactive arthritis which explains why my knees got so bad. You can get this after a gastrointestinal bug (like salmonella or ecoli) which damages your digestive system. I am guessing that created a situation where I became extra sensitive to those foods and it has been a problem ever since.

I am not generally allergic to cats. I have had them all my life. When I am sick (with a cold) I am sensitive to them however. They tickly my nose and make me sneeze. The rest of the time I can bury my face in their fur and be fine.

Thank you Jessica for this detailed insight. I've become aware of some of the things you said except the gastrointestinal bug you mentioned.

I appreciate your input and will check what other people are saying. It looks like I could find some answers I have not been able to clearly understand. Thanks again :)

I got a bad gastrointestinal bug that could have been salmonella etc this winter. It was after that my knees got really bad all of the sudden. Research showed and my doctor agreed, it looked like reactive arthritis. Ever since then I have been extra sensitive to all the foods. I don't think this is coincidence. I think it is all related.

I am going to try turmeric as it is supposed to by the most powerful anti-inflammatory. I will let you know if it works.

OK, thank you Jessica :)

Thank you for the link. As I mentioned, I have read a lot about it. Just seeking people's experience and insights into sudden onset of allergies. I appreciate your quick response.

Chuka :)
