Most people spend a ton of time to create a great piece of content on their blog and then they do absolutely nothing to promote it. It's as if they think just writing a good article is all they need to do to get a tsunami of traffic.

If you're struggling to get traffic to your website, you need to maintain a minimum 2:1 ratio. That means if it took you one hour to write a good article, you should spend at least 2 hours promoting your new piece of content.

More importantly, you need a simple marketing plan you can follow every time you publish a new article. What I am going to share with you below is exactly what I do whenever I publish a new post or page on my blog.

What to Do After you Publish a Blog Post

You don't have to do these things in the exact same order as I have them listed here, but I do recommend that you do each of these steps.

# 1: Share it on Facebook

The first thing you want to do is share your article on Facebook. You can post it in your group, on your fan page, and on your personal timeline. You can also private message it to 3-5 people you know would enjoy reading it.

# 2: Share it on LinkedIn

The next thing to do is share your article on LinkedIn. Basically, you are posting it on your timeline. Make sure you include a good photo, a good description and some hashtags. You can also post it in a relevant LinkedIn group.

# 3: Send out a Tweet

This step is pretty easy. Tweet your article and be sure you use a few hashtags. You also have the option to direct message your article link to a few people you know would enjoy reading it.

# 4: Comment on 2-3 Blogs

The next thing you want to do is go to Google and search for the title of your article. Look at the top 30 results you find. Whichever one of those results are from a blog post, visit that blog and leave a comment and link back to your own article. Make sure you provide a quality comment and include your link. Pick 2-3 blogs to leave comments on.

# 5: Email Your List

Next, you want to email your new article to your email list. If you're saying, "what list?" you are way behind the power curve. You need your own autoresponder and email list so you can build up a following of people who like you, know you and trust you and look forward to reading your new article.

# 6: Create YouTube Video

The next step is to take your new article and make a short video about it. I like to simply share my screen in ZOOM and record it. I cover the key points in the article and then I upload the video to YouTube. As I do that, I include my link to my post in the description box of my video. During the video, I also tell people to click on the link in the description box below the video to visit my website and get more information.

# 7: Create a Podcast

What you will do now is take the audio from your YouTube video and upload it as a podcast. You will then link your podcast to your article. If you don't know how to do this, just do a Google Search for how to convert a YouTube video into a MP4. It literally takes like 10 seconds to convert your video.

# 8: Create a Power Point Presentation

Furthermore, I take the key points from the article and convert it into Power Point Slides. To be honest with you, I normally create the slides before I write the article. I like to think of the slides as the outline to my article. Once the slides are done, I include a link to the article on my website, and several other links to different pages on my website, and upload it to SlideShare.net.

# 9: Create Links in 2-3 Older Posts

The last thing I do is visit two to three older posts on my blog and link them to the new article.

Final Thoughts

Just doing these few basic things can help your SEO and traffic for your new article. You really can turn one piece of good content into five to eight other pieces of content that all link back to your original article.

Just remember, there is much more to blogging than just writing new content. You also need to promote your content! Follow my 2:1 rule and you really can't go wrong.

Thanks for these pointers. I will jot them down and impliment.

You're welcome. These strategies work.

Hi Chuck, let me say that I was gobsmacked after reading your most recent blog and then looking at your smiling picture. I know the clever chaps call it cognitive dissonance - your appearance is more of a jolly sportsman having fun around the barbie, yet this blog is Machiavellian in its networking reach and complexity. It is a completely new experience for me learning about such matters. Being a researcher-type I then checked your profile to find you are indeed a different kind of fellow, one could even say - a renaissance man. Yours aye.

Thanks for the kind words.

Good suggestions. I do some of these already, but you have given me new ideas.

Glad I could help you.

What an Excellent, informative post.
Stuart

Thank you.

Thank you. Very good info and concise. I like it. I’ll have to find out about slide share. I’ve created PP slide shows but haven’t heard of slide share.

It's owned by LinkedIn.

Excellent Chuck. I don't manage to do all these steps on every post but I'm starting to implement this strategy.

I created my first post with a YouTube video and Slideshare Presentation the other day. Very interested to see how it's ranking.

I haven't added it in comments on other posts... Where do I find Bloggers who allow that? Or do you mean in our replies to comments on our other posts?

1. Find 3-4 bloggers in your niche that let you leave comments.

2. Leave thoughtful comments on their popular posts. In the section where you can type in your name, url and email, put the link to your newest post.

It's that simple.

Very good advice, thanks for sharing.

Thanks.

Very informative Chuck and thanks for the advice.

Just bookmark rather than copying it.

Thank you Chuck. this was very timely for me. Question - should the FB page be our personal page or will we be creating a FB Business page for each of our niche websites? TIA!

I post in my group, but if the post is relevant to my friends and family, or at least a large percentage of them, I will share it on my personal account as well.

you are definitely one to follow! Thank you again and will be going over some of your posts this evening. Have an amazing day!!
