Just Getting Started
I'm quite new here and haven't been much of an interactive type. I have started in building my first site and have been receiving help any time I've asked, which is awesome. Something I've noticed is that you (or I at least to be more specific) come into this thinking it's going to be a couple weeks and BOOM! you're off to making money.
I started getting discouraged the last couple days because things weren't exactly moving as "smoothly" as I would have liked them to be. I was having trouble figuring out a couple things for my site with a few things I wanted to do, but was really having trouble making it happen. As I said initially, I've never been much for interacting with lots of people, but you start to read and see some troubles or other things happening with other members and I realized, we're all just human.
I was into computers and web design and such in high school, but that's been many years and much has changed in that time, along with me forgetting a lot of what I had learned at that time. So, getting started on this initially was a bit intimidating, but once I started watching the training videos it really lifted my spirits and made me realize that this is definitely something I can do.
So now it's time to start building, I have a million ideas running through my mind and am super excited to start making them a reality and then I hit a snag, certainly not a stopping point, but something I most likely just missed in the training. Once again, I got super discouraged again and was telling myself "Maybe this isn't really for you". So I stepped out of my comfort zone, asked some questions and realized from that, again we're all just human, at some point I'm sure each one of us have felt discouraged, but the beauty of this site is the positive reinforcement it provides. Everyone here has different, yet some similar experiences, we are all here trying to help, learn, and better ourselves and the encouragement you get from other members here is an awesome thing.
This post really has little to do with building a site or making money or anything, just something that came to me while I was sitting here at my computer working on my website. To those who have helped, followed and encouraged, I appreciate it and I look forward to working with and learning so much more from everyone here.
Finally, I just want to say, if you're just getting started, you feel overwhelmed, discouraged, helpless. Just ask, the member count here is so high it is almost certain that some is or has been in your shoes. Speaking from experience, step outside your comfort zone if you're an otherwise quiet person, ask a few questions, break the ice. It will most certainly make you feel better and in my case, give you that little bump you need. Be patient and keep pushing forward to your ultimate goals.

Yes, many do come here with an expectation of making money quickly or making money with little to no effort. I try to let people know that this is not one of those programs but rather a solid foundation to building a successful online business that will endure.

You're spot on Chris, most everyone experiences that at some point or another or writers block while trying to create content. Wealthy Affiliate is not a get rich quick journey but if you follow along for the ride you certainly can change your bank account. Good Luck!

One thing that is always been taught by what I call "Guru's" is that you will make money fast.
The thing is that any real business takes time to build. It's no different online there is no magic button that will make the money pour in.
The key to making money online is in getting massive traffic. How you get that traffic is how fast you make money.
If you can afford to pay for traffic you can be in profit much quicker. The problem here is that you must have a good knowledge of how to use the advertising platforms.
You have to test track and find winning ad campaigns. Know that you are going to lose money till you find the winner. Once you have a winner you scale up and that's when the money flows.
As I said this takes quite a bit of capital to even do.
Those that can afford that (which is pretty much the majority) will have to build traffic through organic, and social methods. These all take time to build.
The mindset you must have to succeed here or at any business is that you will take action and work on it everyday. Set goals and accomplish them. Please note that goals must be obtainable. A 5 year old should be able to tell you when you met that goal.
A goal like I'm going to complete 3 lessons this week is obtainable and measurable.
But know that you need to get through the training and be able to focus on putting massive content on your site and build out good social systems to drive traffic.
This takes time.
Many here have stuck with it years before having true success. I'm talking about life changing success.
I hope this helps to set your expectations. Please know that there are many shiny object sellers out there that will try to make you think you can become an overnight success.
I can tell you from experience most of those will take your money and leave you with no support or help.
The people here at Wealthy Affiliate post there successes and their struggles just as you have. No place else will you get solid training that works and people that will walk by your side and help you to get where you want to be.

Hey Chris, just remember, we've ALL been there. And I can assure you that you'll hit many more snags along the way. The trick is to keep going and never give up (and remember, we're all here to help you). Chris, thank you soooo much for your post! It's so true, about WA. It's a wonderful community. Great vibe, and good people withso much experience and expertise, who are always willing to help. I started last year around this time, but stopped because I needed to figure some things out first, re what I want to do and where I want to go with this. But now I'm back, and I have to say, I missed being here! Alas, I've already hit snags that have taken the wind out of my sails -- but only briefly. I did reach out, and have been getting help. And I KNOW I can can do this. It's just tough in the beginning. I saw Kyle chatting with someone today who wanted to give up, and he made the point about how just sticking with it puts you at an advantage -- because many DO give up. And that is so true. So hang in there! And I hope to hear more from you.
