Should these SEO areas on WP be filled in?

I had to write this as a blog as I wanted to add an image for clarity, although it is a question really...

Look at the image below!!

This is a screenshot from my posts menu in WP ... now across on the right you can see

SEO Title SEO Description and SEO Keywords..

When doing the certification courses it is never mentioned that these need to be utilized. So I have never looked at them for any of my pages or posts!

Should they be filled in ? or can the be left alone?

Anyone any ideas on what is needed here?

Thanks

Chris

Good question.

Thanks Joy :)

I was wondering the same....thanks for asking!

No worries Lena. Hope you are doing OK :)

I filled them in but now I see it is not necessary. Thanks for the question and the great answers.

Thank you :)

Thanks for the question. I was wondering that myself.

No worries.. It cleared a few things up eh :)

I would leave them blank Chris as Yoast or All in one seo will do the job for you I believe! All the best Chris!

Sometimes it is worth filling in the SEO description yourself, it doesn't affect SEO but it's what readers see on the Google search results and can improve your click through rate.

However it's only worth it If you can think of a good summary statement as to what your post is about including your keyword, otherwise leave it blank and Google will actually fill this out taking lines of text from your post. (Google will do this anyway regardless of whether you fill it out but sometimes they will use your version).

great thank you :)

Leave them blank. The All in One does it for you. 98% of mine are blank and I have made it to Google page 1 at least 20 times. That's the beauty of the All in One, it does things for you and has the best track record for producing better rankings, which is why Kyle and Carson highly recommend it and include it in our website installs.

Great information, thank you. Ill take that on board :)

did not know this.. thanks for the info...

I think what you are displaying is above your page/post area. You can choose what you want displayed. You can opt to eliminate the empties or fill them in. I added categories to my websites for example but I hadn't for a long time. You are right though, many things I learned was by trial and error. I don't think WA can teach you everything. Somethings you learn through tinkering. At least that has been my experience.

So if i fill them in Ed.. will they be of some benefit? or just forget them?

My point is that if you are not going to fill them in now, I would unsellect them so that you will have more space for your longer post titles and it'll look better undisplayed rather that showing the option without anything written in. You can always go back later and fill in the ones you want.
Ed

Ok great thanks Ed :)

Hi Chris. Which SEO program are you using? All-In-One? or Yoast? I use SEO by Yoast and it is fabulous. All those details you can fill in when you add the keywords as you are writing the post or page. Check it out.
If you check out my posts here at WA, I have done a couple on the superiority of Yoast.

Yeah it is All In One!

Here is the latest post I wrote about it. I hope it helps you out.

Duncan

Thanks Duncan .. Ill check it out :)
