Today I didn't do Anything, but I have a Good Reason!

Over the last days I did not do much due to the humidity and heat here in the Baja, it was absolutely unbearable and I did what I could but I could not do all the work I planned on doing.

Today, however, my plan of catching up was delayed for a beautiful, wonderful reason!! Today, my friend, Roberto, was freed from prison after being incarcerated for a year and 2 months for a murder he didn't commit.

A friend called me to give me the news, and I screamed and cried on the phone, out of happiness and relief. I don't know if anyone remembers, but last year in July 2019, Roberto, who is one of my closest friends, was first kidnapped and disappeared for a week. After a week, it turned out that state police had kept him in prison, but no one knew where he was and what had happened to him. He was accused of murder, and the case involved so much corruption, intimidation, and torture of witnesses and Roberto. It was downright scary, and I often feared for him. Every day since he was imprisoned my thoughts were with him. I love Roberto like a brother, we have been friends for over 20 years.

Two weeks ago we got the news that the judge dimissed the charges against him because of all the violence and intimidation and false evidence by the prosecution, but there was still another trial to come, so although it was a huge victory he was not free yet.

Today, a friend called me and told me the news. He sent me videos of Roberto leaving prison. And I screamed and cried of happiness. Both of us were crying on the phone. Tears have never been as welcome as today, such joy and relief, he is finally free!

This is my reason for not working today, and it is a damn amazing reason! Is it a personal post? Damn straight it is, but such happiness must be shared.

Roberto has always been such a positive person and he is always looking on the bright side of things. He would really be perfect for the WA community. I sometimes imagined him giving pep talks to the other prisoners, because that's just who he is.

I am so beyond relieved and happy that he is finally free. There are no words to describe how I feel. He is free!!!!!!!!!!

😎👍👍

Wow! What a horrible story with a wonderful outcome! I am happy that your friend is free!!

Sending hugs!

Anna

It was a nightmare, but it finally came to an end. He is free! I am so grateful!

Thank you for sharing the good news. Having lived in Mexico, I'm maybe less surprised at what he went through. Blessings for him and his recovery from that trauma.

In prison, Roberto met others in similar situations. Unfortunately, you are right, what happened to him is not an exception. It is, however, exceptional that he won his release and that justice was done. It is truly a miracle! :-) He had an excellent lawyer and lots of support from the community. I am sure that Roberto will do something for those guys that are still imprisoned. Even in prison, he was asking for blankets and other gifts for his fellow inmates.

That is wonderful news! I am happy for you.

Thank you!!!! :-)
