I did the Unthinkable - I was Procrastinating .

I have never been a procrastinator. Whenever anyone complained about procrastinating, I always thought that that was luckily never my problem. Seriously, I do not procrastinate, period, and I am very grateful for it.

I guess there's a first time for everything, though.

I never understood the workings of Google Analytics very well, and so I decided to look for some good training or a manual to understand this tool. I found Jay's training and watched it. I understood so much more and immediately after the training I applied what I had learned.

When I went into Google Analytics I saw that most of my website traffic is organic! I spend a lot of time on social media (Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest), but the traffic I get from there is small. My main traffic is really organic, which was a nice surprise. I must be doing something right! :-)

However, I saw many first time visitors and some return visitors. So, I need to increase the return visitors. And here's where the procrastination set in ... the - for me - dreaded word: email marketing.

I don't know why, but email marketing has so far always seemed like a necessary chore, something I just wanted to automate and not get involved, and I don't know why .... it's not like I'm afraid to try new things. I'm here, aren't I?

First, it took me a while to find my email marketing platform. I didn't like several of them, but finally I found one I absolutely love.

But still, I was procrastinating ... and I was shocked. I NEVER procrastinate. It just isn't me.

But somehow I always dreaded going into email marketing, because I simply didn't know how to do it. And it's funny, I blog nearly every day, sharing my musings with perfect strangers online and also with you, dear WA'rs (of which many have become friends) but creating emails to send to those people's inboxes seemed daunting to me.

Today, I sat down, after I finally realized that I was procrastinating for the first time in my life - but honestly, I have been procrastinating email marketing for months now ... even if I have it on my websites. I sat in my hammock and thought of past events and how often I have had to face really difficult situations, how I once even received warnings about my own personal safety when I did my zoo campaign (to close down a local, decrepit zoo) and how even those threats didn't stop me from pursuing my goal.

I've been in some situations that were downright scary.

If I had made it through that, then what the hell was I doing putting off email marketing? So, I realized that it is often easier to tackle exterior obstacles, but the inner obstacles are sometimes harder to overcome. In the end, email marketing wasn't the obstacle, I was ... And so, I decided to stop procrastinating, and take the email marketing bull by the horns, to do it right and 100%.

In order to succeed, we must step out of our comfort zones.

So, today I started my email marketing course. It includes a little over 80 lessons, but I think that is what I need to make this work and get my return customers. Not just do email marketing simply but do it effectively. I love writing anyway, so I don't know why I kept putting it off. I think that analyzing Google Analytics really showed me what I had to tackle, in order to get more views, and - most importantly - repeat visitors. We all want our visitors to come back, don't we?

I think we all have some things that we put off or don't look forward to do. For me, it was email marketing, but now that I have taken the introductory video course and the first video lesson I am glad that I took that step.

Good for you. It IS hard to step out of your comfort zone but that's where the magic happens. It only takes 1 step to get you started and you're there now!!!

Very true! You just have to step out of your comfort zone to make it happen :-)

You are always inspiring.... Your energy it is unknown to me.... Maybe is criptonite.. Where csn I fond some???!
Mirko

Thank you :-) I don't know where I keep my criptonite but it seems to help ;-)

You're so right, email marketing wasn't the block, it was just the thoughts you have in your head about it. We all have our own blocks that stop us in our tracks unnecessarily and without real reason.

I'm glad you shook that monkey off your shoulder and I'm sure you helped a lot of us get the push we need to do the same.

Roberta

Thank you, Roberta! :-)

Congratulations My friend :-)

Thank you! :-)

You are very welcome

I wouldn't call myself a huge procrastinator but I too sometimes find myself putting off things that I don't want to do. I am trying to push myself out of my comfort zone in 2021 and tackle some projects I've been neglecting.

Erica

I think that we need to push ourselves out of our comfort zones sometimes, something I am going to do a little more often now :-)
Good luck with your projects!
