How to show excerpts in your blog roll.
Hi
I wanted to share something which I have just discovered on Wordpress, just in case anyone else is struggling with it. I realise that anyone who has been here any length of time will obviously know about it, but for those people who have recently joined I thought it may be helpful.
I was trying to sort out my blog roll. Having seen other people's blog rolls, I had assumed that the excerpts would appear automatically! When they didn't, I was stumped!
I asked if anyone on the same course as me knew how to do it, but they didn't.
Then I had a very vague memory of hearing something in a lesson about a "read more" tab which was described as looking rather like a washing machine! So I went back to my Post editing page, and sure enough, there it was!
I'm not too sure about it looking like a washing machine though! What do you think? I suppose it depends on what your washing machine looks like! But that description was good enough to help me find it, so it served its purpose!
I really hope that this will be useful to someone!

An alternative is to add the Advanced Excerpt plugin to your site (https://wordpress.org/plugins/advanced-excerpt/). This will show the first X number of words from a post in your blogroll, along with a featured image. There's also options to enable/disable certain HTML tags so you can control what formatting, images, etc get shown from your post.
I use the plugin on this site: http://www.investingoldnow.com/blog/ which I've set to display the first 75 words from posts, the post feature image (I don't allow other images from the post to appear), I kept the H tags in place and changed the "read more" link to "Continue Reading"
