Great Tip When Using Wordpress Editor

Hi Everyone

Today, whilst using Wordpress Editor, I encountered the most annoying problem, and not for the first time!

I had just finished a paragraph so I clicked on "Save Draft" as usual. But instead of the save being almost instantaneous, as is generally the case, I got the dreaded "spinning wheel"!!

I watched it spin for about 30 seconds, by which time I realised that it was going to continue to spin 'ad nauseam!'!

The first time this happened to me I found that the only solution was to refresh the page, with the result that I lost everything I had just written - not completely catastrophic, but certainly extremely annoying!

So this time, I simply "copied" the text I had just written before I refreshed the page, so that when I was then presented after the refresh with a blank space where my text had been, it was very easy to just "paste" it back again! What a simple but effective solution.

I'm sure that most of you have already thought of this for yourselves, but just in case there is anyone who hasn't, I thought that I would share it with you.

Have a great, profitable and productive day everyone, and I hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

Hi there,
I have read about this issue here previously and like you I am writing my posts on Open Office...sometimes...
other times I take a chance and go ahead with wordpress...
I often notice down at the end of the wordpress page, it says 'draft saved'...
I don't know how this happens, perhaps its automatic
Well done and tahnks for sharing
Cheers.....PB

Hi Phil
Wordpress does update automatically at intervals, but we really need to update it very regularly ourselves too. I tend to do that after every paragraph or so :)

I have had this problem once or twice, on this and other platforms. Your 'fix' was the best and quickest available.

Many thanks Mickey :)

Nice to know Chrissie. I have the same problem with Microsoft Edge in Win 10!

I have never used that Michael, but this simple method really can't fail!!! :)

Thanks for the info. This hasn't happened me yet but yea... going forward I will be copying the text. I would hate to loose anything like that.

You are very welcome Stephen, best to be prepared!! :)

Thanks for sharing, Chrissie.

No problem Roger :)

Yip, that's heart attack territory! I copied it all then put it into google docs, as at the time my site wasn't refreshing either. Jay had suggested writing up first in docs, it still needs a bit of editing though...

Thats a good plan too, we all need some kind of a backup plan!! :)

I don't want to admit how many times this had to happen to me before I figured that out...

Don't worry, we won't tel!! :)

I use word to write a post. Then I copy it into notepad++ so as all the Microsoft formatting is really deleted. Only then I insert the text inside it's final destination. The notepad++ file I normally save for further use.

Thats a good idea Eric :)

It's so simple and brilliant, you'd think common sense would tell you to at least try it. But sadly, I've let things go for good without seeing if I could copy it first. So, thank you, Chrissie, on behalf of those of us who just picked up a great new tip!

You are so welcome Hal, so often we look for more complicated solutions and just don't see the simplest one!! :)

Oh yes, this has happened to me! I learned to copy, and oftennow write the entire post in a doc then copy/paste into the WP editor field. It really hurts to lose a post! Cheers...

It really does Dianne, many thanks :)
