Writing with Emotional Appeal

Hi Guys;

So, Just a quick blog. Some of you might have read about this here at Wealthy Affiliate. I did - can't remember from where. I think it may have actually been one of Kyle's New Blogs. Anyhow, so this blog got me thinking - maybe I have been getting it wrong.

It was my 1-Year anniversary at Wealthy Affiliate recently. I joined around this time last year. Can't remember quite what the date was but I had a Facebook memory notification earlier. This time last year I was getting ready to fly to Dublin, and it was around this time I first become a member here at WA.

If my memory serves me correct I was going to wait to upgrade to premium after I got back from Ireland but I made the bold decision to pay the $19 to upgrade before. Seems like a lifetime ago now. Has gone pretty quick!

Going back to that time though - and this I believe is relevant 100%. January 2020 was the best month I've had so far from affiliate marketing. I know this might sound unbelievable but a couple of weeks before I joined WA - I was using blogger.

I stayed in NYE 2k19 and started work on this new blog - on blogger.

My first affiliate commission was January the 6th. Prior to this, I didn't know anything about SEO, email marketing, and my knowledge about web development, affiliate marketing was pretty limited. I knew a bit about HTML, and how to write but that was it.

That first month I made around $450 just from this one blog post.

For any new members reading this. Here is your proof that you can if your fortunate enough start making money very quickly. I didn't spend a penny to make this either. It can be done.

Anyway, so you would probably assume that from here this was just the beginning of more and more affiliate commissions for me💲.

Well..., not exactly it went downhill pretty quickly from here.

Actually, I could maybe blame Wealthy Affiliate for this because after I joined I moved my posts away from my blogger to create my new website - DynamicIdeas4Life.com

I am actually quite proud of this website now, and grateful to Wealthy Affiliate for giving me this opportunity but it has been problematic without a doubt. Like if only I just left my blog how it was when it was making money.

I will get to my point now though. Since moving my golden goose post to my new website. I tried so many things hoping these new changes would get me new commissions. I tried creating other posts as well - promoting this same product in new updated posts but honestly, none of it worked😥

I have probably made only $50 from Clickbank since last January. My most recent sale was boxing day. I have invested heavily in this business as well - time and money and this is all I've made in 1 year 🤨. It hasn't stopped me from working towards these goals but it does affect me for sure. The sooner I can find success again the better...

So, anyway last month I created a new blogger blog with my last version of my golden goose post. I actually really hoped this would help me repeat my early success.

My thinking was that I needed to repeat those same steps to repeat that same success.

Honestly, nothing so far - I have spent maybe a £10 on ads, and I used Bitly to create a tracked link - 20k views and I got something like 40 order impressions but no sales.

Kind of a kick in the teeth, but here is where I am at now. I think I know what was so good about this early post of mine - it had emotional appeal! 😘

From all my editing I did to change this post, I think I've definitely changed this for the worst.
And worse still I think my posts have been lacking in this department ever since.

My main focus in writing has been being conversational, accurate, informative, and opinionated. Having an emotional appeal never actually occurred to me.

I think I was using it, to begin with without even noticing. I actually wonder if this is what was working. Time will tell if this is the case I think. My first 2 posts I rewrote today and yesterday to be more emotional. I also worked on cutting my sentences down as well.

I am hoping this might make the difference. I will write a follow-up blog on soon (if this works) - I'm buying ads for one of these posts tomorrow so will see if I can restore this post to its former glory. Hopefully, I can and for the 2nd year in a row, I can have a successful January.

So fingers crossed and if anyone has any other tips please I'm all ears 👂

Best regards

Alex

Thank you for sharing your post Alex.

The pleasure is mine. It has taken me a while to get used to all this blogging on WA lark but it is good to share my experiences with people. Sometimes I don't really have much news to share but like this blog post I thought might be helpful to people.

It certainly is helpful.

I hope you get your early mojo back, Alex! I would feel a bit flabbergasted as well!

Jeff

Hi Jeff, I may be on to something I think. Just need to make a couple of tweaks and see what happens.

Can't wait to see what it is if you are successful, Alex!

. WA isn't the cause of either making money or not making money. The program just provides the tools, training and support. Its what we produce from what we gain in the program that produces whatever results we experience. I hope your revisions go well

Yes, I get what you mean but I do always wonder If I just left this post online if it would have continued making me money but coming up to 125 posts later I definitely have more potential to earn now, but honestly I think I just need to rework a few angles.

It will indeed be interesting to learn if the emotional thrust and PPC generates a better response

Yes indded.
