My Advice for Anybody New

Hey Guys, Wasn't that long since I write my last blog but something has been brought to my attention that I would like to share to new members of the platform. Actually this applies to anybody using WordPress - there is certain things that if you know early on they will save you a lot of time going backwards on yourself.

Firstly....

I will start with the reason I made this post - PERMALINKS ! - In an ideal world you don't want to have to change your Permalinks ever because wherever you might have shared a link in the past will have the Permalink that you used at the time of sharing. This is an important point.

So what I would suggest when you create a post edit the Permalink right there and then. Make it shorter where neccessary. It's to do and if you look on WA content creator you can do this before even getting to WordPress.

The other thing only learnt in the past 24 hours - change your Permalink settings in Wordpress to not include the date. Post only.

Secondly!

One of my biggest mistakes was creating my main website about Meditation, Health Fitness/Weight Loss, Business/Affiliate Marketing, and Money Making Ideas.

As a result I have had to export my content away to these new sites because having more than one niche on a website isn't good for SEO apparently. Neither is having a date in your Permalink so I have been told but please just don't make the same mistakes I've had.

I would not change what's happened by all means have made some mistakes but I have learned from them and a lot of other things along the way. If I can I want to share this post to try and help people avoid these themselves.



Other Pointers


One thing I didn't realise the importance of straight away is some aspects of SEO. Like I knew that with your keyword that it is important to add it at the top of your post - in the first paragraph. Again in a sub heading and having it appear at least 5 times.

Using Yoast has helped me with this a lot but one thing I didn't pick up was adding titles and alt-text to your images. Your featured image should use your keyword apparently. Look up image SEO if you are new. Will save you a lot of time having to go over posts again.

Also make sure you have set a featured image and tags.

Menus - add posts to your sub menus and use categories to branch them off of. I think this is important. Indexing is good for search engines.

Display - One thing that may be another reason you might have to go back and redo posts is how they're written.

Keep senteances and paragraphs short as possible. Paragraphs it is best to have as 2-3 senteances because it is better for people to read on phones.

Each section should be be no more than 300 words. Use line breaks images, banners and videos where convenient throughout your content.

Plugins - Try to keep minimal but use when neccessary

Finally

I still have a lot to learn myself. Not even 6 months yet for me building websites but try and take note about some of these things I've said if these are new concepts to you especially about Permalinks!

I have just added a plugin for all my posts if anyone needs me to send a link. It is a pain in the backside really because only way my old old links wont come up with a 404 but glad I have found out when I did not after writing another 20 posts.
