My passion is industrial hemp.
Industrial hemp is a sustainable source of food, fuel, fabric, chemical feedstock, medicine and building material.
Hemp holds the solution to our globally disastrous use of fossil fuels.
Using fossil fuels for energy and chemical feedstocks creates massive C02 in our atmosphere, feeds global warming, spews mass pollution into our environment, creates products that don't biodegrade, harms our health and the health of our children.
Industrial hemp is not pot and cannot get you high.
Industrial hemp or cannabis contains less than 0.003% THC, the stuff that gets you high.
It is not a drug.
This kind of cannabis was grown during World War 2 by the US War Hemp Industries Inc. and deemed a strategic crop by our US government.
Why?
Because hemp sustainably supplied us with fuel, fabric, chemical feedstock, medicine, food and building material.
Last year, in Asheville NC, two homes were completely built from hemp brick and other hemp building products.
They are carbon neutral and super energy efficient.
Hemp brick absorbs CO2 inside and outside the homes.
Right now in Canada, Europe, New Zealand, Australia, China and 12 other countries the hemp industry is thriving.
China grows most of the worlds hemp.
What do China and 16 other countries know that we in the US have forgotten?
In the US we can process hemp but not grow it.
The US Controlled Substances Act of 1970 does not differentiate industrial hemp from marijuana. It classifies industrial hemp as a drug. Thank the Nixon Administration for that one.
This is the reason the DEA refuses to allow US farmers to grow industrial hemp.
A big part of the problem for the DEA is that 98% of their marijuana seizures are actually from industrial hemp that grows wild in the mid west and northern pacific.
3,980,000 of the 4 million plus plants that the DEA seized last year were non-drug non-THC containing industrial hemp.
Guess they would look really bad if their seizure numbers dropped by 98% because industrial hemp was made legal.
We don't want to put any DEA guys out of work so why not transfer them to the Department of Agriculture. That way they keep a job and help BUILD the hemp industry with their annual industrial hemp harvest.
Please include that last part in the letter to your legislator.
6% of the arable farm land cropped in industrial hemp would make the US completely energy independent.

In the 1700's and 1800's US farmers could pay their federal taxes in hemp.
How can we jumpstart this incredible and sustainable industry here in the US?
Ask your state and US representatives to join with the 17 other states that are requesting federal decriminalization of industrial hemp.
Tell your congressmen to support HR 525 and get industrial hemp legalized.
Tell President Obama to support the creation of the US industrial hemp industry.
Tell President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder to order the DEA to stand down and allow states to grow regulate industrial hemp.
Tell someone about the potential of hemp to make the US and the world energy independent.
Drink hemp milk.
Make sure you get a hemp protein shake when you need strength and energy.
Add hemp seed oil and hemp seed nuts to your salads.
Hemp is the most durable natural fabric known to man, buy hemp clothing.
Use hemp cosmetics.
Insist on hemp building materials;
block, concrete, insulation, boards, deck preservative,
wood preservatives, diesel fuel additives.

I'm a HUGE believer in legalizing hemp and marijuana. I hope you're successful with your mission of getting hemp back in the US. We need this plant on so many levels!
It's a shame that we can be told that were not allowed to plant a seed.
I'm a believer and supporter. I'd rather see folks living, healing and curing themselves naturally with food, herbs and exercise than to see them killing themselves slowly with synthetic drugs.

Good post! Sounds like your the man to bring this to the people. I too have read about the thousands of uses for this plant and I agree the US is lagging behind ... industrial hemp could help us get back on our feet.
