I Was Saddened To Hear This

I was really saddened to hear on our National News this morning of the terrible mudslides that have washed over Santa Barbara County early on Tuesday and to hear that there were already 13 people declared dead but that they were still looking for others.

In just a matter of minutes, the poor community who had already suffered the Thomas fire was then hit by the pounding rain causing the mudslides from above Montecito to flood the creek leading to the ocean as well as rolling massive boulders into the residential neighborhoods.

I am not sure if there are any WA members who live near to here but if there are, my thoughts are with them and their families and I really do hope that they are ok and safe.

I have left the link to the article that is in today's Los Angeles Times. In the article there is a video as well but I never watched this.

Unfortunately, these natural disasters that seem to keep occurring are something that we cannot account for and there is also no one that is actually to take the blame.

I am not sure how many people already have heard about this tragedy already but I just think that it is a time to get together and let these people know that they are in our thoughts. My heart goes out to everyone in these areas today.

Sorry that this is not a happy blog but I just had to comment on this sad tragedy.

Sorry to read this, I haven't seen the news yet today, it's really awful, Cheryl

Hi Loes,

You are welcome, it is just so sad and it was scary to watch all that muddy water pouring down the road like it was a river.

I am not sure if there is anyone from that area a member here within WA.

I regularly speak to Randy (Doubletap) and know that he is from California but not sure exactly where about. I did leave him a pm asking him to let us know he is ok but have still to hear back from him.

Hope you are well and had a good festive period. xxxx

WA is Global, so there are things happening once in a while in members areas. Yes I had a terrific period, thank you, hope your Holidays were fine too:)

You're right Loes, there are always things happening in some of our member's areas we just have to keep these people in Santa Barbara in our prayers just now.

Yes I was the same, a lovely time albeit quiet but it was nice and chilled. It was nice to have 5 days off between Christmas and New Year for a change. xxxx

Sad indeed!

David

Very sad David.

Like the new profile image by the way. xxxx

Thanks. It was always there in my profile area.:)

Thank you for sharing Cheryl! I noticed some of the news.

Not all blogs have to be business and sadly not all blogs can be happy.

I share your sincere thoughts and sentiments with the community. Natural disasters are happening everywhere and it is so often the case that many of us are so engrossed in our daily lives, that we don't even notice many of these things going on. But we cant know everything either.

Often all we can do, is offer support and our sympathies, as you are doing now, it doesn't sound much from several thousands of miles away.

What we can offer is strength and support, in a similar way that members do so naturally within WA and this in turn offers strength to these communities living with their pain. Our prayers go with them.

Nice post, thank you!

Wayne

Thanks Wayne, you are welcome and it is so sad.

You are right though, we can't always have happy blogs and neither can we always have blogs about business but when you are part of a community like this you never know if people are being affected by these disasters, but I do always hope there is never anyone I know that has been affected by tragedies like this or anything else either. xxxx

You are so right.

Wayne

I hadn't heard about this. Prayers for these people, definitely:). Thank you for sharing this.
Blessings:)
Suzi

Thank you Suzi, it was the first thing I heard this morning when I turned the tv on and was saddened to learn what had happened.

You are welcome. xxxx

I hate stories like this:( I really feel for these precious people. However, I know that God is, and always will be in control!
Blessings:)

typical after the fires they've had but sad to hear that they have to leave their homes again before they even get back to normalcy

Hi Davida, I don't know if many managed to get out as I don't think there was much warning, it seemed to happen so quickly that I think some of them were caught out by it.

I know, as if they haven't had enough to contend with after the fires.

I just feel so sorry for them. xxxx

May God's peace be with them. Disasters are all around every corner.

Definitely Jimmy, it is so sad and when it's a natural disaster there is not much you can do if you don't even get any warning first. xxxx

That's true especially when it happens during the night. We have experienced that a number of times in the Philippines in times of flash floods and soil erosions.

We adore Santa Barbara and the whole Pacific Coast in California, so this is terrible news. Seems the States are suffering terribly from severe weather this last 12 months.

Hopefully this may open they eyes of certain people at the top as to what's causing it and the cost to the economy for action is far less than the cost of inaction!

Thanks for this Stephen, I just think that this is so sad, to be hit with the forest fires and then the rain causing this mudslide. I just feel so sorry for people who have lost lives and the ones who have lost their homes as well.

Not sure if you can blame anyone for these things but the cost to the economy is a different thing altogether. You can rebuild houses and replace materialistic things but you can't replace a life or all these peoples memories and their personal items cannot be replaced. xxxx

Oh I think we can blame someone. No none in particular, but all of Us and the way we have lived over the last 100+ years. All the evidence is there for anyone wiling to look.

I certainly don't blame the current administration, but their approach of pretending it's not real to save the economy money is hardly helping. That's what I mean as cost of inaction, Sure to do something may harm the economy in the short term but doing nothing will see more and more extreme events and more and more lives lost or wrecked.

We were warned 30 years ago all this would happen.

Ironically California is one State that is doing it's best to actually be more sustainable yet at the minute it's receiving the brunt. No one said nature was fair though.

Hi Stephen, I understand and agree with you that in a way we are all to blame. We were warned time and time again about climate change and some people did not take this warning seriously.

What I was meaning though was with some natural disasters like this one there is no prior warning and no one expected this to happen yesterday. It is what I refer to as a freak of nature that we could do nothing to stop as it happened in the early hours when most if not all people would be sleeping and really would have no idea what was going on until it was too late.

Nature certainly is not fair at times unfortunately, it is just sad that people are caught up in this tragedy. xxxx

It is a pity! What a sad news! Numerous natural disasters occurrence these days calls for reflection on the time we are in.

Definitely does call for reflection as there seem to be more and more natural disasters happening. xxxx

such sad news, It's the first headline I saw on the news this morning,

I was the same, it was the first thing on the news when we put the tv on. xxx

I cant believe this news! OH God I really hope there WA members there. I did hear of this yet till you. This sad news.

It really is such sad news Philip, I really am hoping there is no one here at WA stays near to there.
