does anyone have advice on how to set up an e-newsletter on my website? I have tried using "Mailchimp" and intergrating my account to my site using "autochimp" plugin #failed...

see you have had some good advice hope it all works out

both the plug in (from what I have read, not done) and Aweber will work, however you can't change absorb your WP subscribers across to AW if you subsequently decide to change management options..
If you intend to "sell" to your list, then you are better going for AW from the off. If you want a softer sell and to then direct them to a sign up of a more serious intent then you could bolt AW on.

Oh dammit, why don't I just come out and say it- AW from the off why faff around.

lol...thanks nomda. I have done a little research on AW and it looks like i found a winner. As i said, any good investment is worth investing in :)

I see you have received your answer--GREAT !!!

If you can get Aweber, but if not there is a free plugin called "newsletter" that should do the job.

Fyi, if you have affiliate products on your site you can't use Mailchimp (it's against their TOS)

Hi Charlotte,

Same here. Still setting up my site. You are ahead of the game.

John

I use aweber.com. Not free but everyone (ie. Kyle and Carson :) seems to say that it's worth the investment. Only $19/month.

can i integrate that onto my site?...a good investment is always worth a few bucks!!!

Not sure what your question is, but...

I use it for my email opt-in and for blog updates, etc...

ok. Thanks Stephanie

I am nowhere near where you are so far. If I had the answer to help you out on this I would, my experience is in web design, not email marketing. I am learning every day.

I will wait until you set yours up Charlotte then I can do what you did :)

lol...ok Mr. Jake. Im on it :)

Not doing anything like that but will be following the discussion to learn, thanks for trailblazing. :)

I hope I don't offend anyone with this.

For my next niche, I want to promote WA for online business. Since I have been here, (6 weeks now) I have checked out a lot of site

I am sure there will be a way to stand out see lesmyb has given a liink to look at, wish you luck

Hey Charlotte!

I'm working on this too because I want to make a custom banner to promote WA on a website that is not about money making...

I am going to use Nathaniell's training to do that. Check it out here: https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/create-a-custom-logo-or-banner-with-gimp/a_aid/4825bb49

TravelHacker, that was perfect...thanks so much. Nathaniell and I have the same ideas :)

It's always good to make your own banners and be unique

Charlotte, I like your idea of creating your own banners in order to stand out. There are some good graphics people over at fiverr. Take your time, though, when choosing one.

Hope you don't mind if I do the same thing - ;-)

Not at all markvsc, but your the second person who has mentioned Fiverr, what is it, or who is it?????

If you will click on the rocket ship with 300 at the top of the page, then look to the right and click on banners, you can see what is available. I applaud you for wanting to "stand out" from the crowd. I kind of think that when Google sees too many look alike sites that it can hurt rankings. We all should strive to be a bit different. Of course you don't have to use a banner at all. You could use a picture of something relating to a person studying or building a business, and make the picture a clickable link by inserting your affiliate link. You could do this by using the editor for pages or posts and instead of publishing when done, copy the html and paste in in a text widget.
I wish you great success with this.

Teacup, that is a great idea. Thank you so much :)

At this time I am not promoting WA, so as an outsider this is my opinion. WA definitely has a limited amount of banners. This does not keep anyone from making their own, but, unless you pay for the photo, when you make your own your are apt to choose the best free photo and that is what I have seen a lot of -
My suggestion to you, if you really want to stand out, learn to make your own banners and pay for your photos, or take your own photos, or employ someone like Fiverr to do it for you.
WA has excellent basics, it is up to you to bring the level up to outstanding! Shine Charlotte!
You can go check out the banners long before you start your page!

Thanks a lot Trialynn. That was going to be my next questions. "can we make our own?"
Is Fiverr a member or a website....lol, Im cracking up laughing asking that, but i have to know :)))

Thanks for adding this as it is very important to have the rights to the photos you use. I like to take pictures myself and use my own when possible. When nothing relates I buy the rights to something online.

Sorry Charlotte, Fiverr.com is a site where you can choose from a lot of things that are done for $5.00. They offer all kinds of services, so be sure you understand what you are ordering and be as specific as you can. I have experienced nothing but good results from them, but have had a snag where I asked for a hand drawn picture and was sent a computer generated "hand drawn" picture. I was given a refund because I had requested a hand drawn picture by a human hand. I will only deal with English speaking people (or italian, because I speak the language) and prefer to keep the orders in the US, especially if it is a land delivery. You can chit chat with the person who you choose to do the work before you actually employ them to do so. Want more? PM me if I have left anything out!

@TEACUP You are so very welcome!

Great question!

I don't know what is happening but all of a sudden im writing a blog, post or page and my computer shuts off. It has been doing this for a couple of weeks now. It didn't bother

As long as you have a back up (Andy handyman, says) you're safe. Try using another PC, use a laptop, borrow from someone, etc. and check your site.

Back up, back up, back up.
Then work your way systematically through solutions, or options..

If it's a PC, you won't necessarily feel the heat on the outside. You have to open it up and bring you hand close (but not touching without proper grounding) to the components near the fan. Sometimes PC's can have a few fans...and they must all be working.

open it where?

The box that holds your internal PC components differ among manufacturers. Some of them are fastened by small screws on the back of the computer, and all you need is a screwdriver. Others are simpler using a latch or spring-held clips. to hold one side cover of the box. Many PCs by Dell have this setup.

Caution: Make sure you turn off your PC and the power cable unplugged should you decide to open it. Make sure you are grounded (meaning you have no static electricity on your body, usually caused by walking over carpet or handling some fabric) before you start working on your PC. You can ground yourself by touching a large metal body like your stove. You should open your PC away from carpets. PC components are very sensitive to static electricity.

When you manage to open your PC up, look for the fans. You can't miss them. They are quite large and are black in color. Preferably, you should not be touching any of the components or wires unless you know what you are doing.

Then while you have the box open, simply plug the computer back in, and turn it on. ALL fans that you see (with the fan inside the power supply being the most important should start spinning. If at least one of the fans are not spinning, then you need to replace the fans (or power supply if the fan for it is not spinning).

To put it back, turn off and unplug the computer again. Close the box and you are finished.

I hope this helps.

Yes...could be a dying power supply or fan stops working and the computer overheats.

QQ?! Did you computer overheats?!

No, It doesn't feel hot

Okay your computer show bluescreens?!

Start with what Pearlie said, sounds like hardware (though could be one of a million things), could be a dying power supply as well...

Right Damien, that's the hard part. It could a possibility of a million things. I think to avoid any further interruptions or damages, I will take it to the shop...not taking any risk.

thanks for the response though!!!

When anything like this happens, make sure any work on your computer is either backed up to a cloud or external device (preferably both). I'm not a hardware guy, though you generally need to run through a list of possibilities which is not so easy to do in this 'comment' medium. Find a hardware guy here that you can maybe call on the phone, so you can troubleshoot the issue properly Charlotte... You may get lucky with a comment response though, so it is not such a bad place to begin... Good luck...

It's either your hardware or the plugins. But submit a ticket, they might be l able to trace your problem.

Get someone to check the fan on your PC to see if its working properly that can cause a problem.

thank you pearlie, a lot of people has give me the same advice

I faced a problem like this 7 days ago . I found my pages without content, I asked a question here , I was told to deactivate the last plugin that I had installed. As a result my problem was solved.

It's not just with WP...I think the problem may be in the harddrive

hope you manage to resolve

I don't know what kind of anti virus software you have, here is what I suggest you do download rkill
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/
rkill is a program that won't kill viruses, but it will stop it from spreading.
then run malwarebytes
https://www.malwarebytes.org/
you should always have a registry cleaner to clean out all that junk we accumulate from the net. Advance system care.
http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html
all these programs are free to use. if your using norton this program slows down your computer like a snail. I hope this helps you, and If you're still having a problem I have some other suggestions. I'm pretty good with computers. I also suggest you clean your computer regularly because you wouldn't believe how quickly info adds up in your system. I really hope this helps you tho. Evelyn

Thanks Evelyn. So the norton can be slowing the computer down? and as far as the cleaning it's suppose to be swept every month on schedule. Should I uninstall the norton?
I be so scared when dealing with computers..lol

That is entirely up to you. I'm not fan of norton. I have had it before and my computer ran so slow. For me, I have a need for speed. haha I sometime think norton over protects. You can do this, run rkill and then scan your computer with norton on safe mode. If you like norton keep it. try that and see what happens. Do you know how to get to safe mode?

Norton is hole where a lot of computing power is sucked into leaving less power for day to day tasks..

thank you so much 777getgoing. Yes I know how to put norton on safe mode

Until you get an answer, consider writing you content in Word or Open Office (free) and transferring when ready. These programs will save what you have when the computer goes down.

Really nice solution. Thanks.

thanks trialynn, I do that anyway cause I dont know how to backup my files so I type my content in Word and copy it to WP.

Thank you for the response and advice.

A page or post has an auto save feature which auto saves when you do something other than editing. It is highly advisable to click on the preview bottom once in a while.

My notebook has done this when it has over heated. Is your fan working?
I'm not a techy. If you can edit your question add computer problem to the title that may help get a tech savvy person to walk you through it.

I don't know what is happening but all of a sudden im writing a blog, post or page and my computer shuts off. It has been doing this for a couple of weeks now. It didn't bother

It sounds like a virus, do not know what pc you have, but if you do not have anti virus and cannot afford one just yet you can get it free with AVG, hope you resolve it

Do you have an antivirus software installed? Have you done a scan on your PC with it this month yet? It sounds like you're infected with either a virus, trojan or malware somewhere. However, it also could be that you haven't done maintenance on your PC for a while. Are you using Apple/Mac, Intel based PC with Windows? Give me some answers & I'll try to help.

I have norton as my antivirus. It's on a scheduled scanner, no warnings from that. Im using intel based pc with windown 7. I think it might be the 4RAM and 250GB. when I first purchased the computer it was for personal use so the storage didn't matter, but since being with WA, of course I have done a lot of downloading, I have gotten notifications that it's running slow, but I will check for any new notifications and also check my norton.
Any information would be helpful but I will not play around with it too much before I have it looked at by professional.

I have been in IT consulting for 18+ years (software development) then returned & received degree in Networking & PC Maintenance & Repair. We should be able to figure it out. :-)

If the "blowie thing" solution (LOL) doesn't pan out, call tech support. I was having hiccups with my iMac a while back, and I just kept rebooting until it developed total lockdown. I had to replace the hard drive. Luckily my files were saved. Hopefully it's just dust or something minor, but it's always a good idea to have your files backed up just in case!

what kind of computer? year/model/OS, etc? does it happen with other things you do or only on wordpress? also what web browser do you use?
'

it's a Dell Athalon X2 2.1GHZ, 4GB Ram, 250GB HD.

When I first purchase it, it was for personal reasons so the 250GB and 4RAM was ok but now I am thinking that since I started WA, with all the downloads it may have something to do with the 4RAM and GB.

It happens randomly. I am using windows 7 and Chrome as my browser.

i would do 2 things: firstly, run your antivirus updates and have it scan for any bugs. if that doesnt work, the most likely issue is probably a browser plugin so check your settings and probably reset to defaul, deleting any unneeded items. hope that helps

Houston we have a problem.
I'm no techie but, I had a similar problem and a friend told me to give the insides a good blowout with a blowy thing. What the problem was, was dust around and behind the fans, and when I looked inside there was a lot of dust. So once I got rid of it the computer came right. Worth a try.

blowout with a blowy thing...lol, ok, got it.

thanks mwd21...that made me laugh :)))

Ohhh this doesn't sound right Charlotte. I'd be starting a discussion in the Everything WordPress Classroom. Let's see what the techie folks have to say. Best of luck!!
