Patience Required II or What Was I Thinking?!

So as I adapt to my newly discovered A D D as mention in my previous blog post, I took some time to reevaluate my expectations. When I was much younger and wiser, I started my first business. Using my garage as an office, I dove headlong into a marine electronic repair business servicing yachts and commercial vessels.

I borrowed 2000 dollars to finance my initial stock of equipment, printed business cards and magnetic signs for my old 1966 Chevy pickup truck and hung flyers at the local marinas in Va Beach.

In my naivety, I thought the phone would start ringing at any time and I would soon be wealthy. Much to my surprise, My phone did NOT ring and I did NOT become wealthy. My family was crying for me to get a "real" job and give up on my dream of owning my own business. The first year, I grossed $8800.00 and that was gross indeed. I was beginning to think that only the lucky made it in business.

The more I struggled, the more I learned, the more I learned, the harder I worked, the harder I worked, the luckier I became. The second year grossed 175,000.00. the third year 330,000.00. By then, I felt I had an opportunity to survive as a viable enterprise.

What I know about business was mostly learned from the multitude of mistakes I made, the value of which could have paid for an MBA, literally.

The bottom line for this post? Patience is still required because it will always take time and perseverance to drive any business to success, online included.

I have done it before and I can do it again. I will not be surprised if it takes 3 years to get to where I want to be, but get there I will.

All the best,

Charles

Awesome post Charles. unfortunately many people do believe that success in business is just as simple as hanging out a shingle, but as you have stated your first lesson was a valuable one. Yes this online marketing world can be very lucrative, but it also takes time and dedication but you seem to have your head in the right place. So keep up the good work and you will succeed.
