All in One SEO, two different Google XML Sitemap plugins have all failed to create a Sitemap. No, I didn't try to use them all at the same time.

I have gone back through

I stuck with the All in one SEO, and de-activated the Google XML Sitemap.. I did go back and checked both off and they seem to be working, well I haven't blown anything up yet :-) I do need to figure out how to check and make sure the site map thingy is working.. any ideas how to check that ?

The one difference I noticed (I should have caught it sooner) was when the sitemap would update, it said it was created and everything was fine. BUT it didn't use any memory and it didn't list any as being used.
Now, it updates (it does it by itself: dynamically) it shows how much memory it used.
I can see the list when I want to view it. I still haven't 'seen' the actual sitemap.
If you're hooked up with Google - it's WebMaster Tools; that will have the sitemap.
I just found mine. It hadn't been submitted. So I submitted it manually.
I clicked the test button first.

Google WebMaster Tools
1.On the Webmaster Tools Home page, click the site you want.
2.Under Crawl, click Sitemaps.
3.Select the Sitemap(s) you want to resubmit, and then click the Resubmit button.

If it isn't listed then Google doesn't have it.

This may not be the usual route. I thought this was automated. Once it is submitted it will say pending and then it should go through ok. You only have to do it once. Geesh.....I don't even want to think about Bing.

Great thanks Celine 64 I will check it out :-) appreciate it

OK - I just made my All in One SEO sitemap

when I went to view, I got this message:
XML Parsing Error: no element found
Location: http://affiliatesproductreview.com/sitemap.xml
Line Number 1, Column 1:

You're going to need a techy for this one. I don't the difference between parsing and parsley.
Did you try to run it more than once?
You might close the browser and go back in. Not knowing I can only offer very simple suggestions. For example: rebooting the computer.
Which I could be of more help.

Parsing and parsley - hahaha, funny!
Thanks so much Celine64, I'm sure I'll figure it out sooner or later.
I'll try.

Took me forever to get it to work. I really don't know that I figured anything out. LOL

A parsing error happens when a little piece of the code is incorrect. Since we are not manually building the sitemap you cannot go in and find it to correct it.

I realized this morning that I had cleaned up my computer about an hour before (yes, I checked the time of the changes) before I received Carson's post.

That is the only thing I had done that could have possibly changed anything.

My computer could have POSSIBLY been interfering with the creation of my sitemap.

You might run a quick cleanup and see if that helps.

Hopefully someone will have a real answer for you soon.

Wow! - It works now - it wasn't before (maybe that message displays before google etc.gets it - it seemed like it took forever).

Hi, are we supposed to click 'notify google' and 'notify bing' ? on the XML sitemap in All in one seo ? not sue what I should \/ should not check off in all those options ;-( thanks in advance

My understanding was that they should be checked. When I reset up my All in one SEO I left those two unchecked.

I just went back in and checked the Google box and it updated just fine.

I need to try to finish setting up my Google gaggles so I'll find out then if it works.

thanks celine64 :-)

guess i'll give it a try and check them off

Hey Celine,

You do not need to do any uploading with your sitemap, the plugins will create the sitemap for you.

Let's start by figuring out which plugin you are using.

The sitemap plugin that I suggest using is called:

"Google XML Sitemaps"

All that you need to do is activate the plugin and let it run. The default location of your sitemap will be:

http://yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml

Let me know how this works for you.

Carson

Carson - why do you not like the All in One SEO sitemap?

Ok. Thank you.
This is weird.
The only thing I did just now is type in the location of my sitemap.
It popped right up.
I'm using the All-In-One SEO.
Now it shows up when I look in there. It actually used some memory this time.
Do you have a magic wand or something??????
Will this one load up to Google?
or should I change again?

Hey Celine,

I had this problem too. The new sitemap feature in All in One SEO seems to clash with the Google XML Sitemaps plugin. I deactivated the Google XML Sitemaps plugin and just used the one from All In One SEO and that cleared up the problem.

To do that, in you All In One SEO menu, there is an option called Feature Manager. Click on that and then simply enable the XML Sitemaps option.

Best Regards,
Jim

I was just about to get a sitemap created and submitted, but wasn't sure what/which plugin to use.
I think I'll just use the All in One SEO one - seems to be working best for everyone, and its already in Wordpress.
Thanks techhound!

I deleted them when they didn't work. I did not have more than one at a time going.

WP is sending my posts to me as a Comment from the same page!
Activated Akismet yesterday. That is the only change I've made.
What's up with this?
How do I stop it?

Thank all of you for your help.
My panick attack can stop anytime now.
LOL
Celine

Hi Celine. Under Settings -> Discussion you have set first two options (notify blogs and allow pingbacks). So if you link internally your blog gets notified and generates a pingback :)

This totally freaked me out! Thought computer had the flu!
Thank you.

I was freaking out too. Found this and no need to post the question for myself. You saved my day. Thanks!

You are welcome :)

This is because you linked one post to another and WP for some reason makes the link into a comment. All you have to do is trash the comment. None of your post will get deleted. It happens to me all the time.

Seriously? I've been freaking out thinking I had a virus or been hacked!

lol! I know, the first time it happened to me, I freaked out too.

Oh my! I absolutely loved that theme when I saw it!

Ok, so on your main page, you are seeing your dead sea salt post and then below it, you are seeing other posts right?

You have your site set for the main page to show all recent posts. Those at the bottom are not comments, they are other articles that you have posted. Wordpress will keep posting snippets of them to the page for your customer. They can then hit "continue reading" and the full article will open up.

Is this what you are seeing?

Ok. I didn't express myself plainly.
In WP on the admin side the post is coming back to me as a comment. Akismet isn't even throwing them away. Weird.

It's a loopback. I knew I recognized that IP address. It's me. I'm going to shut her down and scan.
Thank you.

Are you talking about on the right hand side of your site where it is listing "recent Comments" or are inside your dashboard where people are making comments?

Celine, what is the link to your site?

Hi - please make sure you don't have another plugin trying to create a sitemap file for you too.

Having more than one try, has been known to cause problems.

All the best, Mark

I only have the all in one. Something is wonky though.

Hi.

Ok, sorry that didn't help.

These are my settings for All in One SEO -> XML SiteMap:

http://take.ms/RVXzP

Do yours reflect those?

All the best, Mark

Mark, the only thing different is the box "include author pages" is checked.
It says it is creating them.

Celine, Here is a great link on an article on creating your sitemap. Hope it helps :)

I finally have my G+ account set up. I don't know if it is set as a business or what. G+ is still asking me to link to my website by pasting (tag with publisher in it.) header on

AAARRGGHH!! Profile page!!!! I was wondering why I couldn't find the Contributor to part!!!!! It's on the main profile page!!!!!!! So I guess I can just set me as a contributor to every thing.

Thank you. Andy. I was just over there; making a mess it seems. I guess the way I set up the profile was for the Saw Barn. And then added a business page for that. Now I have Bath Time Bliss. I should scrap all of it and start over. I don't understand what they mean when they have a "We've preapproved some custom URLs for your page, including google.com sawbarn such and such."
Then I noticed they have the sawbarn email for analytics for that page.
I can change the Saw Barn Profile to my own (my husband doesn't want to be on there). And then add the page for BTB.
And by the way thank you very much on the compliment on my blog. The only thing I've ever written are business letters.
Six years ago my husband said he wanted a website (I groaned) and got to work. I Sitebuilder just doesn't do the job. I was sick all last year so it has really gone down hill. I'm moving it over here and rebuilding.
I'm going to see if I can change the personal profile at G+ and work from there. If not I'll scrap it and start over.
Thank you again for your help.
I just finished level two. Can I even get affiliates yet?

Keep on keeping on Celine. you're getting there. The custom URL thingy just lets you make a nicer looking URL. It gets rid of the numbers (+AndyEBarnes for instance).
I guess best advice is to go in sequence with your training but there is nothing to stop you signing up for affiliate programs n the meantime, in prep. Amazon, obviously but might also search bath salts + affiliate program, for instance. I'd personally say your site is ready for AdSense as well. They can be picky if they think a site isn't ready or isn't 'on topic' but I'd say yours is just what they like. Google again though!!! to sign up for amazon, go into your own account, go to footer menu and find 'associate program' and join there. Then, whenever you go to amazon, use the login page for the associate program and at the top there is a bar that lets you turn any page nto a referral link. so that guy looking for himalayan salts, if memory serves, - find some on amazon. Create link and then send him a reply. you could have a sale by teatime! :-)

Thank you for your encouragement. It means a lot.
I checked affiliate programs before I firmly decided on my niche. It looks good.
I checked my page rank in the Jaaxy thing - not great but some are better than others.
I need to get my Google Analytics set up to see how the traffic is.
I'm not getting as many posts done - I have found how do I say this nicely? a lot of hype with some of the products. If you saw the latest post you will see some of what I'm talking about.
I'll keep plugging along. Thank you for your help.
Celine

Hi Celine (just 'followed' you on G+) No. You don't want to delete this as this is your personal space, linked to your Gmail. without it, you can't then create a seperate business page. It is your social portal and is linked to everything else you do/have with google. 'Pages' are for anything important enough for it's own, seperate, space. It can be an offline business, a website, an online business, a fan page for a band or actor, a local sports club, an interst, anything really. you can create as many as you like. Click 'profile' on the top left and your menu will unfold. See 'pages'? click that. Now, top right, you'll see 'create page'. click. you will go through various screens now asking what kind of page etc. I can't talk you through that as everyone wants different. For instance, I've got one for my offline local business and another for my online business. If you are on facebook, it is similar to having your personal profile and then having a seperate business page. The trick is to keep the two seperate that takes care when you are sharing things and clicking away, but I feel it best to try, otherwise you can loose 'friends' easily if you are always posting 'business' on your personal space. See the difference here - My personal page - https://plus.google.com/+AndyBarnes67 and my online business page - https://plus.google.com/+WahprofitsWs (forgive this page, it needs updating but you'll get the idea).

I see the difference in yours.
We already have a page for The Saw Barn Wood Shop that our local business and website. I was told to just add another page for Bath Time Bliss because I already have a G+ account.
I don't use GMail but I think I'm going to have to forward our mail there when I move The Saw Barns website and rebuild it.
So now I need to add another page for Bath Time Bliss? That's what I thought I did.
OHHHH whew I worked on that for three days hehehe
Is this correct?

It seems so, I'm afraid. I didn't know you could create a 'page' without first having a profile. I've learnt something too. I found your woodworking page and see that you are the 1 follower there at the moment. I might be tempted to close that page and re-create under your new profile, along with your bath and bliss page as well. I had a peek at your blog as well and I was very impressed. Really good work there, and I see you had at least one comment asking you where to buy an item! gotta get those affiliate programs set up Celine! :-)
Back to google+.
The best use is to participate in 'communities' and on other peoples pages/profiles as yourself. Contribute, make friends etc, then you can direct people to your business pages. As you have already made friends, they will likely 'follow' and now they will be notified of updates you post there. Make these updates a mix of things you find elsewhere along with 'I've just blogged about...' posts, sending them to your blog. Good visits and good SEO then follows.
so it all starts as your activity as yourself. Social media marketing has to start on the personal level to work as most people are there in a leisure capacity, not a buying frame of mind. you've got to be subtle. Done well, they won't ever feel like they have been 'sold'.

When initially setting up G+ you are automatically given a personal profile. In that, if you hover over the menu button, your navigation button drops down and you'll see 'pages'. click on this and you will see where you can click to create a page. This is what you want to setup a 'business' page. You can have as many as you want/need.

So do I need to delete this one and setup a "business" page?
If you would look this maybe it will explain what I'm talking about better. Sometime I do not make myself very clear. Thank you.
https://plus.google.com/u/0/b/115596458529284484495/115596458529284484495/about

Thank you. Yes, I did this. I set up the authorship. It looks like personal page not a business page. I don't know if I chose 'other' or "brand' and do not know if it makes a difference.
Thank you.

As andyEB says below create a business page under your personal profile. It OK to have both.

Thank you.

Thank you. Yes, I did this. I set up the authorship. It looks like personal page not a business page. I don't know if I chose 'other' or "brand' and do not know if it makes a difference.
Thank you.

As andyEB says below create a business page under your personal profile. It OK to have both.

I have three pages filled out and finally found a theme I may like. I would greatly appreciate feedback on my content thus far.

The niche is natural relaxing bath salts.<

you website does not come up at all for me

OK. Finally found some images for the site. Now I need to keep adding information!

I really like the site. Great start. I agree with Amanda the Grey is harder to read. Like the content. Good luck.

Hi, good job, but I would add some images to my pages to make them come alive and I would also put a picture of yourself in the about me page. Keep doing what your are doing. I can see you going places with your website on WA.

Celine, I love your niche and your writing style! We are using the same theme, so I can warn you ahead of time some of the responses I've received with using it.
Some said that the grey font is too difficult to read, and should be bigger. I had to get a plugin, Use Any Font, to make the font bigger and darker. It works great!
I was also told that all pages in the Menu should fit on one line. To get my pages to fit I created drop down menus. As you write more pages this will become a necessity, but perhaps not so much at this point.

Your site looks great and content is great. You're headed in the right direction!

I'm sorry it's taken be so long to respond. Thank you. I remember your site. I appreciate the tips on using that theme.
Thank again, Amanda.

I like your content so far. More pictures would be nice. I left a comment.

Hi Celine....I went to your site. Congrats. I love it. It needs pictures and affiliate links and you should be all set. Good for you! I left you a message on your site and I am PM-ing you. *Thanks for the PM* Melanie

Paragraphs are nice and to the point. Don't be afraid to add some pictures, people are visual in nature. As time goes on and you add more input give people more examples as to why a bath is better than maybe taking a shower. Tell them how much more beneficial it is, maybe even healthier. Your on the right track keep researching and don't give up!! Good job!!

Thank you. I'm working on the pix. Not being familiar with WP I'm having a time getting them where I want them. I have a lot of content ideas. But I had to keep the niche narrow. Tons of product affiliates too.
