My registrar warns about transferring ownership.

Transfer from where to where? If you've bought a new domain name then you'll have to wait for 60 days to transfer the registration to another registrar. There is no need to transfer the registration of the domain name, just point the DNS to WA's servers.

If it's an existing website then contact Site Support for instructions on migrating the content to WA.

Thank you for the link. It's been quite awhile since I set up my domain, I don't remember all that was entailed to get my email working. I don't want to lose access to my personal email while transferring the domain.

Then you'll want to save your emails on your computer before you change hosts.

This help article will show you how to save your old emails using Thunderbird. Ignore the fact that it's for a different hosting company, the steps are what you need to follow whichever your existing hosting provider.
