Steps to RECOVER from a DISASTROUS website - thanks for asking Hugh

Yesterday Hugh (Only1Hugh) asked a very important question.

What should I do if my website is disastrous?

We have many more experienced members here at WA, like Diane and Chrystopher who can offer some great insights and suggestions.

Hugh got some very good responses. I worked through this situation with 2 members last year and they were able to recover and move forward successfully.

Here's the process that we followed in both instances.

1. Begin With The End In Mind

Every day, I see members hurriedly getting caught up in the attraction of what everyone else is doing without knowing what YOU want.

  • Where do you want to go?
  • What do you want your visitors to enjoy as their User Experience (UX)?
  • What does your website sketch look like?

Going back to the beginning and getting this right is an absolute!

2. Root Cause Analysis

This simply means asking yourself "why" until you cannot get an answer.

Why are you stuck at this point?

This first question opens a can of words usually with answers like:

"I do not know how to do xyz."

"Why? Did you follow the training?"

"This is difficult to understand."

"Why? Did you go over it in the training or ask for help?

"I tried to do this because it looked good on Harry's website but it isn't working for me."

"Why? Were you told to do this at any particular point in the training?

"I saw that Larry got a lot of success doing it so I tried it too."

"Why? Do you know what previous steps Larry took before he got there?"

3. Go Back To The Beginning

I did the Online Entrepreneur Certification (OEC) many times BEFORE I hit that end button to receive my badge.

Whenever I am stuck, I go back to the training and revisit the step that I am struggling with and then I search for some additional materials or training.

That's what I guided the 2 members I worked with to do as well. Go back to the training and the basics.

For both, they were pressuring themselves to move forward too quickly and missing some very important fine details.

Do not be afraid to do that.

4. Keep It Simple - Themes

Well, this cannot be said enough.

In both instances, the members decided to choose some complicated themes based on how they were promoted to look and then struggled to get the very same look and feel.

The themes were challenging to work with and not adequately supported.

I took both members across to Generate Press (GP) and life started to get much easier.

I am not saying that GP is THE theme but, in my experience, it is the most versatile, dependable and simplest theme to work with. All my sites are on GP - the free version. By the end of 2021, I will start moving on to the paid version.

Not yet though. I am still learning and building content.

Recovering from a disaster is possible. It was so good that this member reached out to Hugh and, as always, he himself is seeking guidance before diving in to support.

Well done Hugh!

That's the mark of an effective Ambassador. ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ™‚

Great advice, Cassi. We have to stop measuring ourselves towars others. We are individuals with different personalities and goals to where we want to go.

We have the training tools, going back and doing them again and again is curcial.

It is just like hat a professional pilot does. We go back to the training manuals and technical manuals on a daily basis, to repeat procedures and techncial knowledge.

And I mean on a daily basis. If you donยดt you will mess up sooner or later. The result; you deliver more and more effective and professional results in what you do.

You are so very on point for me there, Roy!

I agree 110%. ๐Ÿ™‚
EVERY DAY, we must be training and implementing.
It is the only way to become masters.

Thank you for your support.
Cassi

My pleasure, Cassi.

Hello Cassi.
I have learned that GP is a more functional theme for me as well.
I am still no expert but learning. Going through the training a little at a time moving on as I understand the section I am currently on. When I need help, which is often I can simply ask my questions while in that section of the training.
Site and Community support is something I am glad I have access to on this platform.
Be safe
Mike

Great advice Cassi!

As someone who works at a snails pace it seems, I constantly revisit the training again and again in the hope of laying down a solid foundation in the hope my website doesn't turn out to be disastrous!

Only time will tell!!

Have a fabulous Frisatsu my friend.

I am sure that it will not be disastrous, Nick.

There is a quote that I love:
"You never have enough time to do it right the first time, but always have time to do it over."

Take your time the first time, I say. ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a good weekend.

Cassi

Thanks for the support and encouragement Cassi.

Great quote too, I totally agree.

Have a great weekend too.

You are welcome, Nick.

Make it a great one!
