Happy Emancipation Day! What Is Holding You Back?
Why We Celebrate Emancipation Day
Today, in Trinidad & Tobago, we are celebrating Emancipation Day.
In 1985, we became the first country to declare a national Holiday on this auspicious day. Emancipation Day commemorates the abolition of slavery.
For us, it replaced Columbus Day. On that day we once celebrated the arrival of Christopher Columbus to our shores on 31 July 1498.
Bob Marley's Reminder To Emancipate Yourself
Today, I reflect on Bob Marley's lyrics from 'Redemption Song' which he wrote in 1979 while battling cancer.
“Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery.
None but ourselves can free our minds.”
Those are some very powerful words. They remind us that we alone have full control over our minds and the mental chains that we allow to keep us from progressing and moving forward.
Excuses Are Chains
In his most recent Wealthy Affiliate (WA) blog post, Prince Partha shared something that resounded loudly with me.
I quote:
You can read the FULL BLOG POST HERE.
- Everyone has a story.
- Everyone has challenges.
- Everyone has battles.
- Everyone has (dis)stress.
NOT EVERYONE allows these to become excuses that chain them to mediocrity and unfulfilled lives.
In spite of all of that, some people still keep learning, moving forward and achieving.
That day, when you truly believe that you can change your script AND you free your mind is the day that you become emancipated.
Here's to greater success for each one of us! 🍻

It is me versus me every single day.
I do a meditation in every morning, we are the Dreamers and that is one of the lines in it. I actually recorded it in my hotel room before the sun came up and I now listen to that every single morning as part of my routine.
More people are mentally enslaved than there are people in prisons.
Great post, and one of the best skills to ever learn is self-disipline, the others would be focus for both of those skill sets are invaluable here in WA.
Enjoy your day, it is good we live in the world we do and slavery is no longer the norm.
Stay cool!
"More people are mentally enslaved than there are people in prisons."
I do agree with you, Scott.
It is unfortunate.
There is much power in our minds.
More than we can ever imagine or utilise.
What a magnificent world we would live in if many more of us tapped into our minds and harnessed its power.
Imagine!

Hi, Cassi
Great post!
I’ll just say that in my mind Bob Marley was and still is a prophet! 😎
I hope you are enjoying your 3 day weekend!
Frank
Don't get me started on Bob, Frank!
I will not shut up. 😂
I met him 3 times in my life, at different stages and in different countries.
Each experience touched my soul.
He IS a Prophet!
I have also met Cindy Breakspeare and their son, Damian Marley.
Damian is married to a Trinidadian and a close friend of one of my daughter's relatives.
It is an honour to be in their presence.
We are enjoying a wonderful day.
Off to visit with relatives for dinner soon.

That’s so awesome, Cassi!

That day, when you finally believe
You can take hold of your life, and change the script
Is the day that your story really starts
The day that you become the author of your own fate
It's a new beginning, a fresh start
So don't be afraid to seize the moment
When the time is right, go for it!
All the best,
Julia
