Hi everyone,

I've recently come across an opportunity for a coding/web developer bootcamp at a University in my state. The tuition for a 24 week course is about 10k, whic

Hi Cassie, I wish I can help you with this but I believed a lot of member here at WA are more knowledgeable and can definitely help you. I made some research about this and one of the best coding bootcamp is App Academy,an intensive, full-time, web development class in San Francisco and New York City. Over twelve weeks, you'll learn all the skills needed to begin a career as a web developer. They also have online bootcamp. Their subject offersRuby, Rails, JavaScript, React.js, Flux, CSS, HTML, SQL, Advanced Algorithims. I hope this will help you through. :)

All the best
Bien

Thanks Bien! I appreciate you doing research to help me! :)

You're welcome. :)

Depending on what coding you want to learn, there are free (or at least cheaper) alternatives out there.
Do some googling on the subject you want to learn and I am sure you can find good alternatives for free.

For a starter level of coding for web, you can look at http://codeacademy.com who offers good free training or a premium plan for the price of a few beers per month.

Thanks! That's just what I needed!

Happy to help :)
Remember that there are several ways you can go with a web related career.
One is to learn the techy stuff and get a basement office where you do programming, build CSS and do database stuff.
Another is to learn interaction design and design in general and get to meet clients and then tell the programmers in the basement what you want to be done.
Yet another is to study inbound marketing and work with clients in building a total online strategy and then tell the designers and programmers what you want to be done.

All of the three above can be done as online studies for free or relatively cheap while you figure out what direction you want to go in. And with an MBA in for instance marketing or computer science as a foundation, you are good to go.
So spend your money on the MBA if you have the chance.

Inbound marketing is fun because there is really no validated education on the subject. Take two free certification classes at Hubspot Academy and you know as much as any professional inbound marketer.

Thank you! It's a relatively competitive industry and I didn't actually study coding in college, so it makes me feel a little behind at the moment. You are absolutely right, there are many paths for web development and I knew that I needed something affordable that would help excel my career while I worked on getting an MBA.

The University was actually trying to recruit me, but it honestly felt like they were a for-profit program because 10k seemed a little high for what they offered. Hence why I wanted to see if anybody else had gone thru a similar program and if they felt it was worth it. I do follow HubSpot and I actually didn't know they offered certification courses! Good to know!

I'm sure you will make the right choices :)
Take the HubSpot training, combine it with the free coding classes from Codeacademy, add what you will learn here in WA and use what you already know about design and website development and you have what you need to start your own business building web and marketing solutions for companies.
With a good theme as a foundation (I use Divi from Elegant Themes both on my own sites and for clients), you can build amazing sites without the need for much coding.

You can have a part-time web business up and running in no time to pay for your MBA.
