I am not sure who to ask this, but a while ago I've received an email from Amazon stating the following:

Hello Amazon associate,

Hey Simona,

Below is a screen print explaining what Prime Membership (better known as Amazon Prime) means. It has nothing to do with being an Amazon Affiliate, as it pertains to being a regular Amazon customer who wants to save money.

Hope this helps you.

Thank you Triblu.

Thank you all for your answers. When I first signed up with Amazon, my understanding was that it was free. What made this email worse for me is the fact that they do not mention anything about non-premium members. Another thing, something really strange was that I was able to read the email on my cell phone but not on my laptop. For a moment at first, I thought it was some kind of a scam. Thank you all again for taking your time and answering my question.

I got this email about a couple of weeks ago. I had to look at it twice but I managed to work it out, like others have said, it is to do with the sign up of people onto the prime membership.

That fee is for prime membership through Amazon.com that has nothing to do with the Affiliate membership there is no cost for an Affiliate member. That is only if someone signs up for Prime membership through your affiliate I believe you would get a percentage of that sign-up I hope this helps you out. I tried to explain it the best I could.

There will always be fees for anything internet involved. From this point on due to what we can't talk about. Which is another thing that questions this mindset. Supposed to help, I don't think so helping those that don't need it is what it does.

my condolences on your bad history with this. when it comes to affiliate marketing, fortunately, this is a false statement. You'll understand why as you move along with the training. :--) Amazon Associates is the partnership with Amazon (affiliate program, if You will) and it is one of the first out there. this has been and always will be free.

no affiliate programs should ever ask for money, or they are scams! the money the emails infers to is about the premium membership on Amazon. not the affiliate program. but as an affiliate for Amazon, you can earn money for promoting their products but also getting people to buy their premium membership (named: Prime). That is what the Email is about. Which is why You need to know that the price has changed this year, compared to earlier. Now, many don't even promote this membership but Amazon still need to inform as there are no special lists for those who promotes it and those who aren't. so that's all there was to it. :-)

Again, Xavier. Welcome Home to Us here at Wealthy Affiliate. Follow the training and You will be safe. Remember to include us in your success stories as well as your struggles. because succeeding is fun but sharing it multiplies like a positive disease which makes people wanna engage and encourage as well as support You and everything You do. really, we're all here together and whatever you've been faced with before, leave that outside and bring your best smile onto here to see some real progress as we will be here supporting you in good and bad times. :-)

I like this!

nope! if you ever face an affiliate program who charge You a single penny, RUN!

Ok. My worry is that I received an email about it. So, if it is free then why the email?

hmmm...this is for prime members. not amazon associates. as for the wa membership, it will always be free ;-)

the email thanks You for being an amazon associate, but then they switch to their premium membership "Prime". That's why it seems confusing. :-)

Prime membership has a cost but You don't need to be Prime member to be an amazon associate. :-)

I took the liberty of attaching a screenshot of the amazon associates to answer this. :-)

Ok. To me, it looks like it something new starting May 11.

yes, that would be the new price on prime memberships. should not have anything to do with amazon associate (a.k.a. affiliate partners)

Hello Amazon associate,

Thank you for being a valuable member of our Amazon Associates program.

New subject: Prime memberships

Effective May 11, 2018, new members will be charged $119/year for an annual Prime membership and $59/year for an annual Prime Student membership.

Reason they clal you by Amazon associate and tells You this is because as an amazon associate, You can promote Prime memberships on your website as well.
Lot of people do that. It doesn't mean that YOU need to pay for it. but if You are promoting the memberhsip, then you must have the new price on your website. and sinc eit is amazon and their strict rules, they'd might even cancel your partnership with them if you don't promote the correct price.

Although, don't promote the price of anything else on amazon, as thast would also make you lose the partnership. (this is by the way why you never see the price directly on the website. and is due to the frequent changes on their websites.)

hope thi sorts it out for you once and for all :)
