Hi Everyone,

Today I thought it was time to let everyone know at Wealthy Affiliate that I've been distracted and slow to respond to questions recently because of the health of my 1.5 year old son Kai.

Last December when he was 9 months old he was diagnosed with Leukemia at which time we went through a pretty gruelling 6 months of living in the hospital. In June 2015 we went home as he was in remission and he was a healthy little boy!

Just last week we found out that the cancer relapsed.

The story this time around...

Just over a week ago we were on a family holiday camping down the Oregon Coast of the United States and Kai started waking at night with what it seemed like to be pain. He would go back to sleep, so we thought nothing of it, thought maybe it was a stomach ache. This happened for a couple more nights, so we packed up our things and made a dash for Canada as we wanted to get him looked at.

The Day after we returned home (early), we took little Kai to the hospital to check his blood to see if the cancer had relapsed. At that point everything looked good, his vital signs were good, his blood was cancer free, and he seemed to improve a little after they gave him some IV fluids as he was dehydrated from not eating much in the previous days.

We took him home thinking it was a stomach bug.

The next morning we could barely wake him and we rushed him into the hospital where they admitted us and continued to do more tests. By this time he was basically sleeping through everything. Doctors decided to arrange to air lift him to the BC Children's hospital where he had his cancer treatment last December because they are more well equipped to diagnose what was going on.

As they took Kai down to the Helicopter we had a very scary moment where his heart nearly stopped. One of the doctors immediately ordered an emergency MRI scan of his head.

To my wife and my complete shock, they found a large brain tumor that required immediate surgery. Within 20 minutes of leaving the helipad, he was in the receiving arms of neurosurgeons, oncologist, and a complete army of people ready to help our little boy at the Children's hospital.

Kai's brain surgery lasted for 5 hours.

Thankfully, they were able to remove the tumor which was causing immense pressure in Kai's head. It made a lot of sense because when he laid down at night to sleep, the pressure would build and he was waking up with headaches. The pressure also caused his bran to have trouble sending signals for his body to function properly, and this is why his breathing nearly stopped and why we couldn't wake him.

Within an hour of coming out of surgery, Kai was saying "Mom" and "Dad" and although he was sore, he was definitely much improved.

After analysis, the tumor was found to be the same type of Leukemia (AML) that he had before which means we are in for another long haul in the hospital. It also means that the Leukemia is CURABLE and we are all optimistic that Kai will be cured.

Its now just one week after his brain surgery and Kai has already started chemotherapy. He will have two rounds of chemo, followed by a bone marrow transplant to give him a completely new immune system that will hopefully be able to keep him in remission this time around.

We are settling back into life at the hospital and I'll be transitioning back into the community here at WA over the weekend and into next week. I wanted to let everyone know here at WA where I've been, and how Kai is doing. So many of you check in to ask how Kai has been doing and that support is nothing short of AMAZING! The support that my wife and I have received throughout Kai's battle has been really uplifting and it's helped to give us a lot of hope.

Please keep us in your prayers or thoughts and send us your positive energy because we can really use it :)

There are brighter days ahead and I know that my little boy can beat this!

Carson

PS: Here are a few pictures of Kai just a couple days before we found out the news.
