A Brand New Wealthy Affiliate Search Box!
Today we rolled out a much anticipated and requested update to the Wealthy Affiliate Search box! Finding what you are looking for has become a lot easier and faster with the new and improved search.
Here’s How the New Search Works
When looking for something at Wealthy Affiliate, you no longer need to worry about being taken away from the page you are on. All of the search functionality works right within the search as you type.For example, search for “Getting Started Course”, and you’ll find it right away. Simply click on the search result that you want and you will be taken to the page
The Search includes:
- Members
- Blogs
- Discussions
- Training (Courses, Video, Tutorials, WAbinars)
Typing @username will still filter username results, but the new search does not require you to use the @ symbol. Go ahead and type "Carson" into the search and it'll pull up a link to my profile with my image beside it!
Finding Content just became WAY EASIER!
One of Kyle and my main issues with the old search was that you couldn’t easily find links to offer to people without being taken away from the page that you are on. Now, if you want to find a training resource, blog, or discussion and copy the link, you can do so very quickly. Just right click on the result and copy the URL and you can paste it Live Chat, Discussions, or Blogs!Can’t find what you’re looking for? Create a Discussion!
The Search box also includes a Discussion box at the bottom. This gives you the ability to quickly create a discussion about the topic you are looking for. For example, if you type a question into the search box and you do not find what you’re after, then create a discussion and you’ll be sure to get an answer very quickly!Training Link in the Main Menu (Removed)
We have removed the training link in the main menu of Wealthy Affiliate. This page can still be browsed to by performing a search using the new search box, then clicking the “Detailed Results” link. This will bring up the training page. We’ve removed the “Training” link from the main menu because the new search will find everything you are looking for. Plus, we want to avoid confusion about where to go for training. However, if you want the training center, just type in your search into the new Search box, and click "See detailed result". This will load the training center with your query.
When looking for training on a particular topic, classrooms is where you want to go first as a lot of our training in in there. All training in Classrooms has been hand picked by Kyle and I.
For anyone that is NEW to Wealthy Affiliate, there is ONE course that you should be focusing on and that is the “Online Entrepreneur Certification Course #1”. This is within the main menu labeled “Getting Started Course”.
Phase 2 (what we’re working on):
Now that the new search has been released, we’re working on improving it so that it’s even more helpful.We will be adding items like Classrooms, Acronyms with definitions, and building the search into every page at WA. The results will also become better “Weighted” so that the most important training and blogs make their way to the top and are easier to find.
This is an upgrade that many people have been asking for at WA and we are excited to release it today.

One thing I would like to see WA address is the fact that so many people that I run into that are in their sixties feel that they are too old to get started in an internet business.
When I try to tell them that their is always a second chance in life--even if it is #2--#16 or #50. As long as your breathing their is a chance to still become financially secure.
I have had many people in their 50's--mid 60's take a look at WA and get frustrated because of the complexities of our site. They feel that WA is a young person's opportunity.
The baby boomers is a gigantic opportunity for WA if we can make WA navigable and understandable. Financial Mobility is the golden Egg that is really here at WA.
People in their late 50's and beyond who are not financially free by this age feel really depressed that the "party is all over for them" when in reality where ever there is an internet connection because of WA you are in business.
I try to make them feel and realize that if you don't have 2 million dollars put away and living off the interest or earnings---then you need a "financially Mobile" business so that you can still travel --enjoy life--and know your internet business will be an ongoing "income stream" for life. In other words we all need active income for ever in spite of any social security or passive income streams.
As WA evolves from this point on ---even though they have been around for almost 10 years the real growth of WA is NOW! Now I know this next statement is going to RAISE EYE BROWS but the time has come for WA to categorize who the real Players are.
Meaning that who really are the big timers here in WA? When I get some advice from a member--is that member a 6 figure income earner here at WA? Now in my mind when I get help from a heavy hitter like Carson and Kyle we all know they make serious money and their advice is welcomed. But if I get help from other marketers here at WA who also are heavy hitters then I know I am in great company with a group of "MILLIONAIRE MAKERS". There are a lot of people creating blogs and so--called training tips but for some reason you can tell that they are trying to build their own "worth" here at WA for the "Contribution Status" and recognition more so than what the contribution is really worth. If I sound critical I guess I am. I have read so many of these trainings only to walk away feeling" what value was that"? I don't need pep talks what I want is to get help from the people that are doing serious business here at WA.
I would like to see a list of WA's best premium cream of the crop marketers so that I can show my prospects and say " This is the type of success that is available here at WA"
There are people like me that when I see some one super successful because of a system created by a reputable company --that is exciting because I FOUND A PLACE THAT I CAN COUNT ON. I can trust the system-- now I just have to take action and depend on my self.
I HAVE FOUND MY HOME FOR SUCCESS! IF IT IS EVER GOING TO BE IT WILL BE UP TO ME.

I'm curious as to how you envisage WAU would evaluate the "real players" or whether it would simply be self-declared?
The worst scams have the best success stories, usually with accompanying pics. of high-priced toys, properties and lifestyles. The only proof possible is if you're willing to let anyone-and-everyone log in to your bank account which I'm afraid in my case is not on the agenda. :) It's one of the reasons why I've never blogged a *success* story myself.
If it was based on actual WAU affiliate earnings, there's the privacy issue. I know that some Members are already uncomfortable about public speculation regarding their earnings. I also don't think it would help much. I'm sure you've realised that with a few notable exceptions, many of the top referrers don't blog, publish training or make even an occasional appearance in chat.
It would also open up such *success* ranked Members to constant demands for support, help and advice. I know from my own *contribution* ranking how time consuming that can sometimes be.
I too am not a fan of *motivational* pieces. I'd only pay to see Tony Robbins if they put him in a cage and let me poke him with a stick. However, I know that many, many others get an awful lot from such "pep talks". I simply discriminate for myself and don't follow nor read those that publish them.
I'd be interested to learn more about how you see this working.

Hi Carson! Just gave it a whirl and I like it.
If I don't find what I'm looking for, which rarely happens ;) Is it better to ask questions in the form of a "discussion" rather than personal blog?
A discussion will get the same exposure as a Blog post will and it'll be organized into Classrooms so I'd suggest creating discussions for questions that you do not find answers to. That said, your personal blog is also a good medium. I'd suggest that if it's a general question about something where we have a Classroom, throw it in a "DISCUSSION", else, if it's something more of a statement, or something personal to you, a "BLOG" makes more sense.
We are working to incorporate WA Classrooms more into the natural mix of WA and get discussions even more exposure. This is why we added the discussion box to the search...makes it really quick and easy to create a discussion :)
Haha.. I agree that I like to have a number of tabs open at the same time too.. Not sure I keep 30 open though!!!

The thing I like is sometimes I saw somthing and I didn't know if it was a blog or training or what, this way it all shows, again I love it.
Great! It's so very powerful to have icons associated with certain items, and I can agree from using the search that the icons help you realize what's what! Great to know you feel the same way.
Glad you like it John, now I have to get used to using it myself because the way the old search worked I dare not use it or it would take me away from the page that I was on! One of those design flaws that we've corrected with a much more functional replacement.

Glad you like it! The big improvement is that the Search will no longer take you AWAY from the page that you are on. This was really frustrating for people as they couldn't use the search if they were looking for links to plug into Chat, or a Blog, or Training etc. We never want people to lose their page and this gives everyone access to the content within WA without worrying about that happening.

I'm loving the interface to the new search and the fact that I won't have to keep a separate search tab open so I can proffer links quickly. :)
Here are my initial thoughts:
It would really help if *See detailed resultS* :P was available for each category. I think it's confusing that if you type "DNS" you have to click on Members to see the full list of training. If this was added and it produced a list of Members that would also be very helpful as at the moment some of the Membership are *invisible*, ie. if I type "Morgan" it doesn't return Morgan968. Perhaps this list could be ranked, ie. Premium Members first?
It would definitely be useful to see all the results ordered by the number of *Likes*, ie. most popular first. I originally had thought it should be by most recent but that would probably be too easy to *game* as the author could simply make minor tweaks on a regular basis to acquire a new update date.
Oh, and author selected *tags* included and weighted in the results!

Hey Rich, glad you like the first iteration of the search. I agree that the "View Detailed Results" link is in the wrong place. I'll work on that. Also, we're working on better weighting that takes resource RANK into consideration when displaying the results.
When I do a search for "morgan" all the "premium" names with morgan show up, so but I agree that it should be ordered by Premium. Again, this comes down to our weighting.
We'll be working on this so that the BEST stuff + the most relevant stuff comes to the top!

OK, I'm probably doing something wrong. No surprise, huh?! I'm looking for https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/morgan968 as an example. I see: http://d.pr/i/POOx and this: http://d.pr/i/C1sx Rich. x
The issue is that your "Morgan" is "Morgan968", and if you simply type "Morgan" it's pulling a full set of results. In other words, you need to be more specific with the search for Morgan simply because there are a lot of morgans.
Type "morgan9" and he will be the top result.
I'm sorry, but this is nothing more than blatant numerical discrimination. If Morgan13 and Morgan15 can be listed so can Morgan968. I shall report you. :P R. x
I agree, it's not perfect when there are many members that match. I'll have to put some thought into how we can include more member names. One idea would be to sort the user names based on people you are following, and sort by "premium" status at the top.. .and mix in member rank somehow. Will work on this - I see and understand the issue Rich. Thanks for pointing this out as it'll most definitely help us as we improve the results. Keep the suggestions coming man!
Ah, Carson, I've been using it all day and the new search is 1000x better. Kudos! However, I'm not sure that I didn't prefer it when you couldn't find @That Helpful Lab Rat without knowing you needed to add a space. :P I know it might seem "nit-picky" but I'm aware from people who contact me that they struggle to find certain Members when they want to PM them. I had to ask Leo's *handle* in chat the other day to my supreme embarrassment and Morgan is our very own Lost Boy! I suppose ordering the results by Rank would at least reveal the most active who are likely to be the ones the majority of people are looking for? Just a thought..... R. x
Or, the ability to show ALL users that match a certain phrase. ALL the *Morgans* for example, not just the number that fit within the search. I'm gathering thoughts and working on algorithms. These things take a little time, but you know me...I love the challenge!
