Hi WA friends,

I'm having important ranking issues for a while now and the following article caught my attention.

Maybe some of you have an opinion about this chan

Your site should be mobile friendly and there is a great plugin that will do that for you.

Read these 2 trainings by my good friend Loes.

Enjoy your Saturday.

Mobile Friendly

Hi Robert, great info to know if a site is mobile friendly. Mine passes the test.

My concern is whether or not a website theme is developed to use separate URLs to display on mobile devices or desktop.

Reading the article I've posted suggests that you should have a single URL for both.

Strange enough it says that if you're using a "desktop only" then there is no change.
"The mobile version is the same as the desktop version. " (Even if you're mobile display looks like crap...)

The site developed with these type of URLs should look at the best practices:
- Separate URLs
- Dynamic serving
- AMP and non AMP

I am no developer and have no idea how it was designed... But if this can affect my website I think I will need to look for a new website theme that uses a single URL...

I was actually wondering if anyone had an opinion on this.

I think a new theme is the order of the day.

Robert, are you using the plugin from Loes? I would like to know if you had any problems, incompatibilities, etc with it.

Could be worth trying before changing my theme with all the work that comes with it...

Thanks,

Hi again
Yes I do use the plugin and it works great.
I'm using the theme Frontier.
Have a nice Sunday when it dawns for you.
Robert

This is an excellent question - following! I'd like to see some in-depth training on the mobile-first issue.

Hi Laurie, I hope we'll get some good hints!

Hey Carolyn,

Though I am not support staff here at WA, I am just another member, thought I would chime in to see if I can help you.

The search box has been working all today for me, though I have not been online all day. If you are still experiencing the same issue, perhaps trying another device and/or browser will resolve this issue.

Hope this helps you.

Thanks, it,s working now.

Has anyone experienced a traffic drop after changing to a different WP theme? I had a free theme and changed to for another free one...

I found out what happened. When I switch themes the google analytics tracking code didn't follow... I thought everything would stay the same and that all widgets and AdSense code would just work the same but I had to add the Google Analytics tracking code to the header of this theme (as specified in Kyle's training).

Hope this can help others:

Yes, some members do experience and then after a while it comes back to normal.

very interesting - which themes are you switching between? Did you compare site speeds with both?

I was using Ariwoo and now changed to Activello. Activello is slower to load which is annoying. The problem is that Ariwoo is not available anymore and does not have much customization available. That's why I wanted to change to another theme. Finding one that is fast and niche related is not going to be and easy task...

Triblu has written a bit on this, it seems free themes can be slower than the pro-versions ultimately. It would be nice to see people's experience of this to see which free ones run faster - though I see you already got it working faster - congrats and thanks for the heads up!! :)

I have not experienced this.

It is unlikely but could happen, if the theme is badly coded.

I have a notification in Google analytics of Duplicate tracking hits:
"40 or more pages in property outsidetheboxwedding are sending duplicate tracking hits.

Just guessing here Carolyn.

Check your Admin area (plugins and theme) to see if you've got the tracking code installed twice - perhaps you've installed it in two different plugins, or in a plugin and in a header / footer code section for your theme.

Certainly an interesting twist though!

Dennis

It's probably what happened though I'm not sure where since I haven't done any changes lately... I just did a cleanup of old plugins I don't use anymore and decide to add the tracking code to the header of my WP theme instead. I'll check on Google Analytics in a few days to see if the notification is still there.
Thanks for answering me Dennis, all the best to you!
