Oh No! Offline. What to Do? What to Do?
So frustrated! I was peacefully watching Kyle's tour of the new platform last Tuesday evening, when suddenly my computer started buffering and refused to stop! GRRR!
Called internet provider on Tues. and was told that I did not have a satellite feed due to storms in AZ, and told to call back in 2 days, when they expected the weather to be cleared up.
Two days later, I called again and received the same song and dance.
By this time I was steaming, and when I called the third time Saturday night, I was informed that I would need a technician sent to my house....I COULD HAVE TOLD THEM THAT THE FIRST TIME I CALLED! Sorry for yelling...just so frustrated.
When I called back the last time on Sat. night, I informed them that I was not going to pay for the nearly two weeks I have been without service, and that I was not going to pay them at all until the problem is fixed to my satisfaction.
I apologize to all my newbies I have been able to respond to when you followed me back.I will do catch up on all of my follows that I owe anyone as soon as I get back online.
I did not realize how dependent I am on internet access until this happened. Whatever happened to plain old telephone directories to look up a number when I need it??
Sorry to be a negative influence in the community. I really am addicted to WA! Can't sleep, wake up with my fingers flying over imaginary keys as I write posts that go nowhere!
OK rant's over now. I feel so much better!

Hi, Darleen. Was told repair wouldn't happen until Sat., but the tech called this AM and asked if I would be home today. Said he was 10 minutes away! So glad I was home! It's great to be back online. No more WA withdrawals now!
How are things with you? You can PM me if you need to talk. Thinking about you and your situation.
Carol
I totally understand your frustration!! I'm out in the country and forever getting a dropped signal....arggg. I think I need to call a networking co. to come out and properly set up our house. Between tower issues and router issues, I don't know how I get anything done, lol.
Cheers,
Suzanne
I can relate, Suzanne. I'm in the US, but I live on a mountain where cell service is spotty. And internet can be as well. I applaud you for your tenacity to work WA in spite of internet challenges. Where do you live?
Carol
I imagine the internet service is similar to mine. I'm in rural NC in the woods on a mountain. Lots of stuff in the way of the signal for both of us, I would guess. Carol
Thanks for listening to me rant and rave, Marcus! It's all better now. Tech called this AM and said he was 10 minutes away and wanted to know if he could come now instead of waiting til Sat.! Even if I hadn't been home, I would have made a quick trip home so I wouldn't have to wait so long. Carol
Thanks, Sheila. Yes, they have, thankfully. Repair guy just left a few minutes ago. Carol
Maybe data service on your phone would at least let you answer emails, etc. As a technology teacher, I've learned to work around lots of obstacles. You might want to buy an ethernet cable and plug directly into your modem when the wi-fi is down.
It does sound like the infrastructure out there is awful. I'm spoiled in NYC.
Thanks for your response, Wendy. However, I have a dumb phone. I'm a technoidiot and don't want something that's smarter than I am!
I have satellite internet now. Had wifi with a hotspot, but got mad when they kept charging me for data overage when I was working on the training, even though I was on an unlimited plan.
They said I was still limited to 15 because I have a hot spot. When I questioned them on this practice, they said it was because I could sell my data...whatever that's supposed to mean. I really had no intentions of doing anything except my class work, but got rid of that provider because of their policy that I disagreed with.
Carol
These providers are awful. I agree. I held off on the smartphone as well, but I finally caved. You'd be amazed at how easy it is to get used to. But to each her own. :-)
I am from Canada and have spent 5 winters in Arizona and found it to have the worst wi fi I have ever had to use. I know the feeling.
Wayne
Hi, Wayne. I can feel your wintertime pain! Where do you winter in AZ? My inlaws moved from IA to Mesa, AZ due to my father in law's breathing problems. Carol
We stayed in Quartzsite AZ about 20 miles from the California border on highway 10.

It's like your car.......it can sit in the driveway for days BUT the minute something goes wrong with it and it's in the shop, or someone "borrows" it (like a husband who didn't listen to you when you told him what was wrong with his - I've only been in Automotive Service/Parts Management for over 20 years), you can think of a thousand places you NEED to be!
I know the feeling about the computer as well! You weren't yelling, there just isn't a font BIG enough!
Hope your day's going better!
My best,
Laurel
Hi, Laurel. Good analogy. I'm back online now, thankfully. The customer service dude I talked to was nowhere near here, and was relying on the national weather map when he told me we would be having rain all week.
The repair guy called me around 10AM and said he was about 10 minutes away and would like to do my repairs now if I would be home. So happy to hear from a local person! Carol
