Mind Your Own Business
Are you familiar with the acronyms ROI and ROTI?
ROI is "return on investment" and it is important that each one of us thinks of our Wealthy Affiliate membership as an investment. Call it a tuition if you wish. A networking expense. Call it whatever you wish but it is most certainly an investment. It is an investment that is real monies and the ROI needs to be measured that way as well. Now there are many ways that WA is worth the price to me besides learning how to make money online but --- If I do not take the time, to invest the time, to do the things taught here then I have a very poor ROI. And so will you. And this leads to ROTI.
ROTI is "return on time invested" and if we have been here any amount of time we all know what a time consuming thing it can be if we are not mindful of our use of it. I could take a year to build out my sites to see a return that would justify my monetary expense. And to me that would be worth it. I could justify that. But what about the time that I have invested here. Is it worth it to me to take time away from family and dear friends so I can make new ones here. Well at some level I am willing to sacrifice a small portion of that time to build a business online that will ultimately allow me more time with them. But my point is this --- while I am taking time away from them it is my very best use of time here to focus on those things that will ultimately pay me time back.
By focusing on the right things. And having a balance with all the rest. We will have both a good ROI and ROTI. We will be on our way to being set free from the boundaries that presently hold us back.
So here is my advice, and a little bit of self-talk too, mind your own business. While we're providing feedback we're minding someone else's business. Of course paying it forward always pays here so that is fine. It's balance we need. When we are helping in Live Chat we often are minding someone else's business. And that's okay because it will wash back. I learn so much more by helping often than I do from just simply doing. You're taught. You do. you show someone else. That's the best way to learn. But while you're learning and helping be sure to also mind your own business.

Can't agree more, Carl. I have considered this investment as tuition fee from day 1, here. And WA as my new university. With great mentors and learnings in every corner.

On a serious note, I needed to hear this powerful post. We do need to prioritize and manage ourselves well on this platform.
We must indeed get a return on our investment for it to make sense in the long run.

Good points Carl. I often think the same.
It really is a balance do engaging in conversation here and helping within the community. But I also sometimes wonder “how do they all do it” while still working on their own business.
I do learn a great deal from others online here and everyone is extremely helpful so I try to return the favor as much as I can. However, I do need to get back to my website development which is my goal in the coming days.
