A Sustainable Plan

I mentioned in earlier posts that I am somewhat of a process improvement nut. This short post describes a process I employ, or try to employ, in every relevant application.

Some of you may be familiar with the PDCA process used in process improvement but have you considered adapting that to your every arena in life.

Personal improvement is a lot like process improvement. I am thinking strongly about making this sort of thing and post a new niche; personal improvement niche.

What is PDCA? Glad you asked. (insert eye roll or LOL here -- your choice)

What is PDCA? IT is an acronym explaining
a process improvement technique or skill....

  • P - plan
  • D - do
  • C - check
  • A - act
The PDCA process for personal improvement works like this.

  • Plan - You develop a goal with clear measurable objectives.
  • Do - You implement the plan in the time frame that you established.
  • Check - You verify your results with feedback, Google analytics, etc.
  • Act - You act on the results by adjusting your plan and then do it again.

It is very simple and very powerful.
IF this PDCA process is new to you tell me how it helps you.
IF you have been using PDCA without realizing it was a thing let me know.
IF you are very familiar with PDCA and use it often share that too. Please share.

I love to hear from the WA community!

Tell us your story. Give us your input. Express yourself.
And if you do -- or if you do not -- kind regards to you always.

Until next time and the next post,

Carl

I've been doing that for a long time in my life. I have just never heard of it being called that.

It's a good practice but as the comment says below - listing ensures you are not missing any point in the process.

Listing ensures you are not missing any point.

You're absolutely right! Listing does ensure you're not missing any point i the process. Well said.

Is is a good list to begin with. If everyone followed through we would all be stars. Unfortunately life gets in the way....

There are always distractions. Indeed. Having a list and measurable goals helps us to better stay on track.

This sounds very similar to developing a daily routine. 1. make a list of things you want to accomplish. 2. you start figuring when is the best time to do each one. 3. you test it out and make things you like as habits. 4. you engage with people you have known for a while and ask if they notice any changes. 5. you adjust your routines as you work through your goals. 6. You do this for anything else you want as a part of your routine.

That is exactly it. Thank you Eric!

Never heard that acronym before and coming from 20+ years in software development I'm not sure why, although that process is always adapted just under a different term.

Mind you I do come from the UK.

I think the acronym or process started in Japan and I am not sure what letters they used to describe the process. Glad you learned something new here or had something you know elaborated. Thanks Mick.

Carl, all great points and a path for continued improvement. Jay

Thank you Jay!

If you can reverse engineer at any stage of this except the first, that's master processing Carl!

Hmmmm. intriguing thought. Thanks Mike!

Heard it but, never knew that's what it was for. Thanks

Glad I could share and clarify it Dean.

The term is new to me, but I do what you outline, just have to do it better. I think the most important part of the process is the planning and adjusting after evaluation, these are the two areas where it is easiest to let yourself down. I know, I do it a lot. lol

Steve it is a common place to miss in our process. We tend to do the same things and fight the same problems with the same solutions perhaps with more vigor and keep getting the same results. Even though I know this I too fall into this repeat cycle. App;lying PDCA is an intentional thing and often I just react and respond to things rather than acting intentionally.

Thank you for your comment!
Kind regards to you sir.
