The difference between .com and .info?

HI WA family.

I sent out a few messages individually last week sometime, unfortunately, I did not get any responses, so I am putting it out there for all to see and give me your input.

I have been working on my site which is off and running for my business, so I decided to finally get an affiliate site up and preparing for the holiday season to promote affiliate products.

I had purchased a domain about a year ago, and had done nothing with it, so I chose to begin building this out for this reason. Here is where the question comes in. When I purchased the domain, I thought I had purchased a .COM domain. when I went to start creating it, I saw the name was: the sitename.INFO????? NOW, I am familiar with the different ones, ie .COM, .NET .ORG, but I can honestly say I had never seen .info before as long as I have been here.

I am really hesitant to use this, as do not think it will draw much traffic if any. So my question is this.

Have any of you seen this, or used a title like this, and should I just purchase a different name with a .COM?

Looking for some suggestions please.

Thanks to all.

Hi Carla...Phil has you covered. I've seen .info many times before but as he says it's generally for informational sites. It's not an extension that is as familiar with many folks. I think people are more used to seeing .com sites, so that might be a stronger way to go depending on what your site is about.

Phil, has you covered with the information..

It is not that a .info will not work, it will, it is just that many prefer the .com as people associate with .com better. So, it might take a bit longer for the .info to rank as opposed to a .info, but it would work.

Even Jay uses a .org domain name.

Thank you Alex. Much appreciated

The .com, .net etc are called TLDs (Top Level Domains). There are currently almost 1,600 different ones!

.info is one of the original ones (along with .com, .net and .org) and was originally intended for informational sites, just as .com was meant for commercial ones.

It's not a bad one, and you can certainly build a site around it. .com would be better, though.

Thank you for the info. So it was from the beginning of time huh? lol
as you said, I could build on it and prove to be successful. I am going to take a shot at it.

I am planning on building a few different ones, and YES dot com is my future choice.

.com is definitely the best option and will be noticed more by search engines.

.com is best. The 3 top ones show in Jaaxy. Try to get those.
