Good Day Dear Colleagues

This information may be helpful to those suffering from this condition,

One of my long- term friends wrote a message on Facebook asking for ideas to cure or alleviate Tinnitus Symptoms. Needless to say, many of our friends in the social media responded with ideas such as take this plant, take this medication, do this, do that. I find self-medicating to be the wrong and dangerous action.

Below, please find my response.

Tinnitus is a condition which can cause severe discomfort, due to constant or intermittent ringing in the ear, to those who suffer from it.

My Suggestion, based on my basic hearing loss prevention experience and Otology vast area, is scheduling an appointment with an Otologist or a neurologist physician. They are the specialists in this field.

The patient must go through an in-depth study starting from the approximate time when he first experienced the symptom.

Some of the standard questions from Doctors are:

  • The kind of work you have been doing.
  • Is he or has he worked in an environment saturated with elevated levels of decibels?
  • If this is the case, then. Hearing Protection Devices (HPD) must be worn. Failure to use the necessary HPD is detrimental to the nerve cells located in the snail-like bonny membrane (Cochlea) located in the inner ear. Hearing loss due to nerve cell death is irreparable (for now), and your physician will review all possibilities to help.
  • Does he consume alcohol and how much? Some people show strong negative responses even with small quantities of alcohol.
  • Does he smoke?
  • Does he drink Coffee and how much?
  • Is he drinking the required amount of water on the daily basis?. The amount of water is based on the kind of work he does.Dehydration will cause the body to send warnings such as this.
  • Is he taking Aspirin on a regular basis? He may be developing an allergy to Acetylsalicylic Acid (Aspirin) or taking too much. Over dosage may have several adverse effects.
  • If he is taking Antibiotics, Sedatives, Anti-inflammatories, Is he auto-medicating?
  • Does he have Thyroid problems?
  • Is he a diabetic or Hypoglycemic?
  • Does he have high blood Cholesterol levels?
  • Does he have any High pressure or any Cardiovascular condition?

Although the list goes on, I wanted to bring the underlying reasons for this temporary or permanent condition; my intention is to give you a general picture of the causes of why someone may experience tinnitus.

Do not let this go on without proper review and treatment from a physician.

If your friend would like to talk to me and get additional information to prepare for his Dr's visit, please give him my e-mail and Telephone number. It will be my pleasure to help him as much as I can.

To health and Safety!
