Hello dear colleagues;

Just a note about a common medical condition.

Avoiding surgery in the treatment of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome has become a major goal of both patient and doctor

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) commonly strike thousands of people each year. CTS follow closely behind lower back pain as the two most disabling and costly health issues in the U.S., But most people do not know that there are ways to combat CTS without the expense and possible long-term effects of surgery.

What it comes down to is that anyone can develop carpal tunnel syndrome. For example, the woman who would type thousands of words throughout the day would be a prime candidate for carpal tunnel syndrome. Here's a short list of other careers that should be on the look out for carpal tunnel.

1. Meat packers
2. Massage therapist
3. Hair stylists
4. Guitar players
5. Postal clerks
6. Chefs

Some might think that you can only get CTS from putting a strain on hands, wrists, and forearms are the only way to get CTS is wrong. Some health conditions and everyday things you do can cause CTS such as:
1.Cigarette smoking (decreases circulation)
2. Diabetes
3. Pregnancy
4. Birth control pills
5. Hypothyroidism
6. Obesity
7. Rheumatoid Arthritis

Main Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Symptoms.
Symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome mostly include:
1. Tingling, numbness, and pain in the wrist and hands.
2. Pain can also extend to the neck, shoulders, and arms.
3. Pain intensifies at night for some people, which causes further issues such as sleep deprivation.
4. Often, people with severe cases of CTS lose the ability to grip simple objects as they also experience muscle atrophy and a general weakening of the hands and wrists.

Non-invasive Treatments.

Therapeutic Massages.
Carpal tunnel massage, by a trained massage therapists, is helpful in combating this condition, primarily because it addresses the cause of the injury. The result of a compressed median nerve that is located in the carpal tunnel, which extends from the forearm to the wrist, is the usual culprit in CTS. Because the median nerve is responsible for feeling and movement of the thumb, forefinger, middle finger and ring finger, when it becomes damaged or compressed, intense pain, numbness, and tingling is the result. Massaging helps to reduce the pressure on the nerve as well as associated swelling of the tendons, and increases circulation needed for the median nerve to recover and decompress.

Exercises,
Performing carpal tunnel therapeutic activities that challenge the muscles in the arm and wrist by stretching, resisting and strengthening, CTS can also be significantly reduced. Carpal tunnel exercises stimulate circulation and help to rebuild strength that has been lost in the arm, hand and wrist areas.

By performing regular massage techniques and carpal tunnel exercises daily, many sufferers are experiencing remarkable improvement in their levels of pain, and some have been cured using these therapeutic methods.

As a medical transcriptionist for over 30 years, I have developed CTS. I was supposed to have surgery a couple of years ago but I couldn't afford the co-pay, so I continue to suffer. I try every nonsurgical treatment I can think of. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Carol.
I hope you feel better and hope you are utilizing a brace which, usually, is very helpful.

Thank you Erika.

Ugh, I've been suffering from carpal tunnel due to my office job. I've been getting treatment for it and doing exercises.

Hi Karin,
Yes, use of computers or constant use of hands are two of the common causes.
Doctors are currently trying to correct the condition with exercises and physiotherapy before invasive practices.
