Hang In There, Friday's Comin'!

Dave bid one dollar when he should have bid one dollar over the highest bid. The whole audience knew it. Dave knew it, too, but the errant bid had escaped his lips. The audience let him have it, but he stuck his chest out and kept clapping.

It Gets Worse Before It Gets Better

A couple of bids later, Dave was closest to the actual price - only ten dollars off! Problem was, he was ten dollars over! He trotted proudly back to his spot as the crowd had another good laugh at his expense. Last bid. Dave has been there since the opening bell. He's taken a couple of serious body shots, but he's still dancing. "The actual price is...,:" Drew pauses for effect: "Five hundred forty dollars... Dave!" The crowd goes wild. Imagine that.

So there stands Dave on top of the mountain. He's got a shot at the proverbial "NEW CAR!" All he has to do is rank a few products according to price from lowest to highest. For each one he gets right, he gets to advance toward the hole he needs to sink the golf ball in to win the car. You know the game.

I'll spare you the details, but Dave didn't fare so well. In fact, when he failed to even get off the starting block, the fickle audience flipped. Again. Dave did his best Arnie Palmer impression as he lined up the long putt, and as the ball pinged off the boards surrounding the hole, it was pretty obvious that at that moment nobody wanted to be Dave but Dave.

The Road To Redemption

As he strutted off the stage, spirit intact and no ill will toward the audience, Drew stopped him. "Well, Dave, actually the name of this game is 'Hole in One... or Two!' You get another shot!" The crowd let out a hybrid cheer-groan in anticipation of him blowing it again. Unpeturbed, Dave took the putter from Drew, approached the ball, knelt down, sized up the situation, stood up and made a perfect putt. The crowd goes wild. Again.

...But To Those That Endure

What I love about Dave is that he did not let the audience or the circumstances define him. Many of us would have been scarred for life if we had exposed the fact that we are only human under such public conditions. But Dave came there to win something. He kept his eyes on the prize and he was not discouraged by the setbacks. He was gonna give it all he had. He was prepared to be the last man standing. He left there with a brand new car. I'm not leaving here until I get mine.

Nice story!
We have to be able to focus on what we want
and not deviate from our path if we want to
achieve our goal.
I wish you to have the car of your dreams!
